Poll question: In the wake of the Torture Bill passing do you believe America is over?
Is there any point to continuing?

There are two camps - those who want to burn down America to build something better, and those who believe that America, torture and all, can be saved. Which are are you?

I usually comedown in the latter camp, but not as optimistic tonight.

Another question, can a website which has diverent and angry views on such a fundemental question, long endure?

Bryant

2. There's no point in America anymore
Our government is now no different than the most repressive and barbaric country out there.

3. Far from over....
republicans have just handed us the means to destroy them.
They are officially and unapologetically torturers.
Use it. Club them over the head with their own hate and ignorance.
Hang them on their stupid beliefs.

4. We are torturers too though
And the american people will probably see that as being "tough on crime" or some such nonsense.

5. It's over but I'm doing whatever I can to win and will vote Dem.
Both parties would have to do complete 180's and switch places before I'd switch.

8. Decadence and moral bankruptcy usually precede the collapse.
The passage of laws that legalize torture, kangaroo courts, and the bestowal of more power on the "security" services is a pretty good indicator of where our moral compass is today.

I'm not nearly as disappointed in the politicians who instituted and/or refused to fight this descent into barbarism, as I am in the American people who, as usual, are willing to look the other way or support it.

Our countrymen have become like the "Good Germans" who claimed that they just didn't know the trains and camps were for something other than excursions and "resettlement".
