So Maybe Charlie Rangel Was Correct About Re-Instituting The Draft ???
Since NATO is gonna take control of American Troops in Afghanistan (something the right must loathe) - Link: http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/09/28/news/nato.php

and since the Torture Party thinks that dis-emboweling the constitution is appropriate to the threat.

And... since EVERY MOTHER FUCKER who voted to condone torture (is a war criminal) justifies it with the theory that the lethality of the terrorist threat supersedes the comforts of the constitution...

isn't it time we put everybody's ass on the line?

Sorry... terrifically pissed here, and NOT just at the Republicans.

1. Yes. Charlie was correct.
If we aren't willing to fight our wars, we shouldn't start our wars.

2. Fuck that I'm getting tired of this bullshit argument
I'm of draft age. So are my friends, my fiance we would all be eligible for this.

I know you're pissed and so am I but neither you nor anybody has the right to use us as cannon fodder to prove a point.

A better idea make the people who supported these bastards go fight, but not all of us.

6. We need the 1/3 of the population...
...that is too busy with its survivor and ipods to notice fascism springing up around them like grave flowers. There is no way to get their attention unless they get put in danger. Anything else will just be spun away. Economy crashed? Oh, it's just so and so. The teevee told me so.

Direct threats are the only thing that is going to work.

I'm of draft age too, btw.

7. Those who need convincing would just flee anyway
Institute a draft you're just giving free bodies to Bush's empire. Those loyal to bush's war would either flee the country or happily go into the battle thinking it'll be just like Xbox only they get to fight for Bush and Jesus for real now!

6 years now George W Christ has gathered his masses of true believers and they're out in full form and regardless of what polls say they make up a good chunk of America, Even voting them out won't do it.

I honestly don't know what the solution is, all I know is we now live in a nation run by Christian radicals who will accept nothing less than full surrender and conversion just as the Taliban did in Afghanistan not long after the Soviet conflict.

8. Hell Man... I Don't Want ANYBODY To Get Drafted, And...
I missed being in the goddamned draft lottery for Vietnam by 1 friggin year (1973). My old man, who was a Marine in WWII and Korea, told me after watching the first few years of Vietnam, that he'd not only condone my moving to Canada, but he'd pay my first and last month's rent!

What I'm talking about here is political jujitsu used against the rePukes for a change. They say that this is the most important threat to America currently, that we must use torture and fuck with the constitution in order to protect our country.

But... all they asked us to do after 9\11 was to shop. They continued to cut the taxes of the rich, while screwing the rest of us over. And now... they are violating the very oaths they took in order to serve office.

No, I don't want to see a draft, but I wanna see them defend the destruction of the American Constitution over a phony, bloody, unnecessary money making adventure in the Middle East that has no chance of ending with these guys in power, and that will end this country if we don't take it back.

And if THAT happens: you, your fiance, and your friends will be facing shit way worse than the draft.

11. Yea I can't say you don't have a pernt (point) there
We're screwed either way it seems. Even if there's a draft I see half the neo-cons fleeing and the other half taking the role of Soviet thugs-fight for us or be shot by men wearing a patch of the flag that used to be that of your country.

Well I guess times like these I'm glad I have a home or I can make one in Mexico at any moment's notice...time to press mom to get me dual citizenship already. For everyone else....

All over a stupid redneck wannabe piece of shit and the powers that back him.

At least if this country was overthrown by some charismatic leader with brains and persuasion skills, but nope over some ignorant WASP fucking dope whom's intelligence is only topped by all the other ignorant religious freaks that supported him and continue to support him today.

Vietnam to me was about greed. This shit is still all about greed but now we got religion in the mix which rallies up the sheeple like nothing else.

Well I won't kill for Jesus or anybody. Period.

4. He's totally right. It's got to get worse before it gets better.

Dumb fucks need to wake up. I'm not perfect, I'm a person, so I'll just say what I'm feeling. I hope some of the stupid bastards tuning in and turning off die. Or better yet, I hope their lives are ruined. The same goes twofold for republicans. And fivefold for the traitorous dems in congress that voted for it. And tenfold for the idiotic leadership that didn't filibuster. (I hear people say they didn't have the votes, is that true? If so, never mind.)

Edit: I'm draft age. If drafted I would hide, go underground, and if caught, not fight.

5. No he wasn't
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 06:58 PM by bluestateguy
He's naive and stupid, and I suspect, has been in Congress just a little too long.

Rangel thinks his little draft bill will intensify opposition to the war, which it might, and yes some people would resist. But in the end, most young people would just dutifully march off to war because the government says they have to go. Then look what we would have done: provide Team Bushco with thousands more warm bodies for more neo-con exercises in empire building.

The American people are little children and will do what they are told. That said, we should strive to be the ones doing the telling.

9. Again... What Makes You think That They Won't Institute The Draft...
If they manage to scare the American public into keeping the House and Senate Republican???

I mean... if they're gonna go after Iraq, with no constitutional constraints, what makes you think you are safe from the draft?

10. i remember being pissed when he brought that up.
But now, months later, i completely agree. i would just want a modern day one where the ich cant buy deferrments and everyone besides actual students and multpile sons too one mother would be exempt. Only way to get the Compassionate Conservatives who love torture out their on the battlegrounds.
