My Skype dial-out has been busy today.
I've called every single Senate Democrat.

I've called many of the Senate Repukes.

Some notes from these calls:

George Allen's staffer was particular smarmy--arrogant attitude. I had to remind her that Sen. Allen represents *everybody*, not just his GOP constituents.

I had very polite and even encouraging feedback from Hagel, Graham, and Alexander.

All the Democrats are getting trounced with calls. I cannot believe that many people would be calling in support of this train wreck of a bill, but I might be wrong.

Of particular note, in addition to those who we *know* will oppose this, Bayh, Nelson(FL), Nelson(NE), Byrd, Rockefeller, Dayton, and all three of the Dakotans were especially receptive to my pleas. This is encouraging.

My position was clear. "Somebody needs to stand up in the well of the Senate and remind them all of their oath of office to defend the Constitution. No Constitutional principle is more important than habeas corpus. The Geneva Convention is the law of the land. The US must not become a torture nation. In my forty years of political activism I've never seen a more unconstitutional bill. This run-away train wreck of a bill must be stopped at all costs, for all of our sakes. Filibuster, if necessary, but put an end to this."
