I'm voting for Harold Ford, Jr. in November...
Yeah, he voted for the torture bill as well as other dems. So I'm sitting here with two choices. Either vote for Ford or Corker. Corker is a damn repuke who is a RW talking point. Ford is a DINO, but he's still a dem.

The fact of the matter is, I want the dems to win. If I stay home on election day it hands an extra vote to Corker and no way in hell will I do that.

Yeah, it's the lesser of two evils in this instance, but given all that's at stake, it's even more important I vote for the one with a D next to his or her name.

If I don't vote I will be failing my duty as an American. If I don't vote I couldn't look myself in the mirror.

Ford will get my vote. Period.

Habeas Corpus R.I.P.

28 Sep 2006 02:03 pm

Yes, in some respects, it is. Money quote:

"What this bill would do is take our civilization back 900 years," to before the adoption of the writ of habeas corpus in medieval England, Senator Specter said.

Mr. Leahy said the bill as written would allow the executive branch to hold any lawful immigrant in the United States indefinitely without charge. "We are about to put the darkest blot on the conscience of the nation," he said, charging that the push for quick passage was purely for political gain. "There is no new national security crisis," he said. "There’s only a Republican political crisis."

This is what conservatism has now become. Because of McCain's capitulation and the Democrats' cowardice, this bill will now pass. The use of torture as a campaign weapon will be brutal, and deployed first and foremost by this president:

Underscoring the political stakes involved, White House spokesman Tony Snow said today that President Bush will emphasize Democratic opposition to the bill in campaign appearances.

"He'll be citing some of the comments that members of the Democratic leadership have made in recent days about what they think is necessary for winning the war on terror," Mr. Snow told reporters en route to a fundraiser in Alabama, according to a transcript provided by the White House.

The only response is for the public to send a message this fall. In congressional races, your decision should always take into account the quality of the individual candidates. But this November, the stakes are higher. If this Republican party maintains control of all branches of government, the danger to individual liberty is extremely grave. Put aside all your concerns about the Democratic leadership. What matters now is that this juggernaut against individual liberty and constitutional rights be stopped. The court has failed to stop it; the legislature has failed to stop it; only the voters can stop it now. If they don't, they will at least have been warned.

3. Ford appreciates your support for his torture vote.
He hopes you will always support him as he votes with Republicans. He thanks you. BushCo thanks you. Big Corporations thank you.

Ford now knows you will support him no matter what he does. Bend over please, Ford wants a little fun.

5. If you've got any better ideas I'm ready to hear them...
So I could stay home...no, that won't help the dems.
I could vote for Corker...pigs will fly and hell will freeze over first.

I could vote for Ford and do my part in helping the Dems get back in power. Hey, that sounds like a better option than the previous two.

6. I bet you also called him to thank him for his torture vote and promised
to give him all the money and campaign support you could give. Plus promising to support him no matter how many times he screwed you.

What you could really do to help is consistantly go after him. Tell him you are not happy with him and that you will not support him if he continues to help the GOP. Call, email and fax and let him know he is letting us down. Keep it up. All the time.

But no, you just keep posting all over the internet, I WILL VOTE FOR FORD. ALWAYS AND FOREVER BECAUSE HE IS A D.

7. Oh, I'll do that anyway...
but I'm not going to lie about supporting him or not supporting him when it comes to this election.

I sure would like to know where you got the insane idea that I was posting this all over the internet plus the always and forever stuff. :eyes:

19. A vote for the guy who voted for torture is a vote for torture.
"Oh, I had to pour water on that poor Iraqi boy's head...the guy who okayed it had a D after his name." Yeah. D for DICTATOR.

12. hmmm
Let me see, Ford will vote with the repukes. Corker will vote with the repukes. Ford will vote for Democratic Leadership, which will result in a Democratic agenda. Corker will not.

What do you want Tenn Dems to do, vote for Ford, Vote for Corker, not vote or some other option?

terra. I e-mailed Ford after had had voted to give to one man the decision to make war that he had lost my vote in perpetuity, but I wince at the thought of RW Corker. M(y) F(riend) Frist and now Ford or Corker: we are so fu*ked forevermore, long live the King.

4. Thanks for posting this. I had just
about made up my mind to sit out this election. But,you are on the money. I must vote for Ford even if I have to hold my nose. My Rep voted also to torture although that didn't surprise me. He is a DINO. TN is becoming a bloodthirsty state.

9. I will vote for him too. I had wanted a different candidate in the primar
but she dropped out.

Corker would add to the Republican head count and he'd line up with everything * wants.

Ford will add to the Democratic head count and will often vote with them. Also, I think he can be influenced by Democrats in the Senate.

I'll be glad when he gets elected. I'd be happier if it was a progressive woman running for Senate and she could get elected here in Tennessee, but that's not the choice we have for this election.

10. Tennessee/Ohio, Close races.... look at Sherrod Brown
So basically you've got Ford and Brown locked up in tight races in states that lean to the right. Both are leading in the polls atm. If they voted no, their Repug opponents would be bashing them all the way to election day. Weak on defense. Weak on defense. Blah Blah. It's a pattern they've followed since 2002. Put a controversial "defense" bill on the ballot and dare people to vote against it. If they do, run a commercial featuring them and Osama Bin Laden having tea together.

Sherrod Brown is EXTREMELY liberal. Yet he voted for it. Why? To get elected. Will I trade one bad vote for six years of an Ohio Democratic Senator? You betcha. In a heartbeat.

If I waited to vote for someone that I always agreed 100% with, I'd never vote.

13. Good for you
I'm voting for Casey up here in PA, even though I don't agree with him on every single issue, because on the whole he'll be FAR better for my state and our country than Santorum. Yet there are people who are saying they won't vote for Casey because he's pro-life. The whole "What's the Difference." crowd needs to wake up.

A democratic leadership in the house and senate is at stake. Stopping Bushco and the Neocons from having an unadulterated 2 more years to screw our country forever is more important than a single vote, whether it be for torture, or what have you.

I wonder how many of the people who come in here to stir up the whole "I'm not voting for the Democrat because of his vote on X" are really just trolls stiring up trouble. You don't have to give your candidate unbridled support. Look at what the democrats in Conneticut did. They chose a different nominiee. That's what you can do next time around. Support a different Democrat in the primaries.

To say you're not going to vote for a Democrat is essentially saying you're going to vote for the Republican, and I can't forgive anyone who would do that. I'm done with people either explicitly or implicitly supporting these criminal traitors.

Good for you.

16. Well said!
I never expect to agree with a dem on every single issue. It's unrealistic.

There is a hell of a lot at stake right now and the dems need to win...not just to beat the repukes, but also to stop these people who want to strip away our rights and make theorcratic law.

Will you, after all this shit passes, support Ford getting arrested and tried for crimes against humanity when the time comes?

18. Fine, but I'll support trying Dems for Treason...
and violating their oath of office to faithfully protect the Constitution.

I hope Rep. Ford eventually has a reunion with his Republican allies, in prison.
