Why aren't the Repukes as scared as being called "soft on totalitarianism"
as we are of being called "soft on terrorism".

The Repukes are going to throw this country's principles down the drain, and WE'RE the ones worried about what people think of us?

I've got a news flash for our Dems in office. They're going to say you're soft on terror anyway. So let's try and preserve what we can in this country before our fear of the big bad bullies causes us to throw it all away.

1. Because the Media is Bought and Paid for
So who will say anything that will be heard by "mainstream" America?

2. The dems got nothing to lose
by filibustering this one. They are just showing that they once again are held by fear. This is a Constitutional Crisis and they could use that line if they filibuster this one. The tide is going their way, all the news is in their favor. This torture bill is nothing but giving into the will of OBL, that could be a commercial right there!

3. Authoritarian personalities cannot conceive
that "their guy" can do anything wrong. And they cannot imagine that THEY can do anything wrong or even be accused of doing anything wrong. They do not feel threatened until they are carted away in the dead of the night.

4. Exactly. The Democrats are horrible at framing the issues and ....
getting the message out. With a little spine, torture and the Constitution could be winning issues.

5. Because WE (our reps and Senators) don't have the nads to call them on it.
Period. You're right, though. I know these assholes are just trying to rush through a bill so they can go home and tell their constituents that they're "tough on terror!", but why would it be so hard for members of EITHER party to campaign just as forcefully that they hadn't come up with a bill that would pass constitutional muster and therefore, in the interest of protecting the rights and the safety of all Americans, the felt it was best not to rush through a bill with such profound ramifications. They want to get it right. Why would that be so hard a position to take? Do they honestly think their supporters would vote for the other side if they admitted that they were more interested in protecting the constitution than in passing a rushed, seriously flawed bill? Why the hell would that be so hard for ANYONE to do, repub or dem? I just don't get it. But then, I'm a human, not a politician.
