Win the battle. Lose the war.
I am disheartened at the amount of sniping that is occurring, and the animosity that is pouring out because some of our Democratic representatives have decided to support the Torture bill.

Let's review this again. To vote against this bill would be a certain defeat for some of our Democratic representatives that are in tight races in marginal districts. They took one for the team. They would prefer to get busted in the jaw themselves so that their little brother doesn't get the shit beat out of him.

But some people don't get the idea of a sacrifice. Hit a home run every time at the plate - don't sacrifice bunt somebody to get them in scoring position. In some people's world, there are no grey areas, because everything is absolute. It must be nice, living in that kind of world. I wish I did. But I don't. Sometimes I have to hold my nose in the ballot box. But I know I am trying my best to get a Democratic majority. And I don't moan about it when I have to vote for a representative that doesn't match my ideal dream legislator.

So, if you must, win your battle. Withhold your vote for your Democratic representative. You are making a stand. Be proud.

Make sure you are REALLY proud.

Because that pride will be all you have.

2. What in the hell is wrong with some of you people? I've read
these posts and no where does the majority of the people here say that they're not going to vote dem. We just have people like you throwing hissy fits because everyone won't get in line like a good little soldier and keep their opinions to themselves.

Crap, this place has acquired a lot of bosses today.

4. Shhh! Pragmatism is a dirty word at DU.
Besides, those thousands of votes for Nader in Florida were a good thing ... right?

5. Ah, well, it's only torture we're advocating. A trifling inconvenience.
Unfortunately, my congressman voted against torture. We should throw him out and get somebody "practical" who doesn't mind advocating reducing human beings to screaming bits of flesh.

6. Um, how many times over the last 6 years has this happened?
Setting aside the "I refuse to vote for them because..." posts, most of the frustratioin here is simply a repeat of what has happened over and over again.

Maybe we've been losing the war because we keep refusing to fight battles.

7. Amen.
And we've been losing our souls in the process too.

Fight the battle to win the war!
