Richard Jewell would be DEAD now, under this torture bill.
An alert DUer brought up this fact last night, and it bears repeating. A perfectly innocent man, Richard Jewel, was immediately fingered for the Olympic Centennial Park bombing in 1996. It wasn't until 2005 that Eric Rudolph finally pleaded guilty to that bombing, and others. Where would Richard Jewell, and American citizen, be today had this bill been in effect then?

Six feet under, that is where.

Keep that in mind, and throw it in anyone's face when they say "we need this bill." We need this bill like we need an electrode up our ass.

2. Whoa!
Does the bill pertain to American Citizens as well? I thought it was only foreign nationals suspected of terrorist acts.

There are several "outs" in this bill which allow Bush to basically ignore the entire bill and detain anyone he wants if he feels it is necessary. Fuck the torture part for a moment...we're talking about allowing George Bush, or any other U.S. President, to point to people on the street and say "detain him." This is the most un-American bill I've ever seen before our Congress.

6. Yes. As long as he

claims the power to declare "enemy combatants (and no one has stepped up to deny his claim)," he will have the power to detain American citizens without due process, torture us, and convict us in a military kangaroo court. Does Jose Padilla ring a bell?

So all you Americans who give this criminal government (including the Congress) a "pass" on authorizing torture and kangaroo courts and giving this slimeball thug "wartime" powers because you think it's for "furner ragheads," you've got a surprise coming.
