They voted on two different bills.
In other words, the House version (HR 6166) and the Senate version (S. 3930) have to be reconciled with one another in a conference report. This probably won't happen until the lame duck session after the election. So even though the fight looks almost over, it may not be.

On top of that there are the lawyers defending those at GITMO, specifically the JAG lawyer who was partially responsible for the SCOTUS decision that prompted this whole debate. I don't think they will accept this, mainly because this bill legalizes an even more egregious system.

1. With this corrupt Congress, they'll do a little public dance for an hour,
then announce they've reconciled the two bills. They'll cram this thing through Congress and onto the president's desk at light speed if they can.

2. That conflicts what I heard this morning on CNN then.
Once this thing passes the Senate, a dog-and-pony signing party by Bush is expected in a couple of weeks (so Repugs can gloat, no doubt). They've done this before though - didn't they send through two different budget versions and Bush ended up signing? Nothing was done about it?

I hope you're right, but I don't expect any laws to be followed anymore.

3. Bush will just sign whichever version he likes best into law.
And everyone will go along with it.

4. No Offense....But Are You STILL That Naive??????
I apologize, but are you paying any attention? You reallllllllllllly think they're going to let this sit? You actually think they went through all this just to wait?

This bill will be passed and signed within days, not weeks or months. DAYS!!!! I wouldn't be shocked if it's before the month ends.

But you can continue thinking optimistic thoughts, but if you believe it's going to sit, that's wrong. It's not only a done deal, but it will be done within moments.

8. They Have To Get Back To The Important Stuff....
Things are going so well in this country, we have time to debate CRAP like this bill. Unnecessary BULLSHIT.

Then they can go back to what they really want. Keeping their PATHETIC jobs. That's what it's all about. You think it's about YOU? About American citizens? Well, maybe some, but not ANYBODY that's reading this.

5. The bill will be on busholini's desk this weekend.
Reconciled to remove all the minor reforms that the senate put into it.

The JAG lawyers won't have a choice.

6. The JAG lawyer - you mean Cmdr. Swift?
He's really good. He'll need to be - he may be our last hope.
