"Poll: Lieberman Leads Lamont in Conn."
HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - Sen. Joe Lieberman has a 10-point advantage over Democrat Ned Lamont among likely Connecticut voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

Lieberman, a three-term Democrat running as an independent after losing the party nomination in a primary, is favored by 49 percent to 39 percent over Lamont in the three-way race. Republican Alan Schlesinger trails with 5 percent.

The race has tightened slightly since an Aug. 17 poll that showed Lieberman leading 53 percent to 41 percent.

"Ned Lamont has lost momentum," said poll director Douglas Schwartz said. "He's gained only two points in six weeks. He's going to have to do something different in the next six weeks or ... Lieberman stays in for another six years."

1. Where is the best place to emmigrate to?
This country is doomed, doomed by our own gutless stupidity. It is time to cut and run.

2. Surely this can't be true? The citizens of Conn. can't possibly
want a quisling gutless bastard who doesn't give a shit what the voters want or who they want to represent them? Can they?

12. No, not a Red state. But unfortunately, what there
seems to be a lot of are people who are "used" to Lieberman. They may not like him but at least they KNOW him. Also, I think Lamont started late with new ads and imo they are too directed at Democrats, not a wider audience. There is still a little over a month to go. I am hoping some people still aren't really paying much attention and that Lamont will come out with some better ads.

5. Incumbents have power. People like that power; it brings home the pork.
A candidate's Pork Procurement Potential is a highly-motivating factor.

4. I think the 'single-issue' problem of Lamont may apply.
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 08:55 AM by robcon
"...Lamont wins among those who say Iraq is the most important issue to their vote, but that is only 35 percent of the electorate," Schwartz said. "Lieberman wins on all the other issues voters say matter most to them, including terrorism and the economy."..."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/28/AR2006092800272.html

That single issue won the primary for Lamont, since those who say the Iraq War is the most important issue are likely to be Democrats, IMO.

6. You know all that shit we're fed about "hold your nose and vote for the D"
You know all that shit we're fed about how we each must absolutely
and positively "hold your nose and vote for the Democrat", no matter
how appalling their positions?

It's a lie told by the DLC and other political power junkie
insiders. They simply want the most corporate candidate they
can get, and they care not a whit about party affiliation
except when it's convenient as a bludgeon with which to beat
us lefties over the head.

Remember this race the next time you're told to "You *MUST*
vote for the Democrat because this is, like, the most important
race since forevah!"

1. It's not a lie...

It's a recommendation, not a statement of fact, so it can't be regarded as a lie.

2. It's not only told by the DLC and power junkies.

A lot of people on DU, like myself, (i.e., non-DLCers, and not power junkies) recommend that all Democrats vote Democratic.

I think your post is disingenuous, Tesha, i.e., phony.

10. You are free to think whatever you wish.

You are free to think whatever you wish although that psoting
that statement might be construed as a personal attack.

Meanwhile, I think the recommendation (to always vote for
the D) has proven to be a losing strategy in that it simply
ensures that we're given more and more awful Democrats to
hold our noses and vote for. These Democrats stand for less
and less, giving people less and less reason to vote for them,
ensuring that we lose more and more.

Running some actual Democrats who are proud of what they
stand for might produce different results.

11. So, who *should* people vote for in Connecticut?
Someone other than the Democrat?

You're scoffing at the idea that we "must vote for the Democrat," so you apparently have a better idea.

14. My point was simple.
My point was simple.

1. If it is true that lefties must "hold our noses"
and vote for whatever DINO the DLC pukes up in any
given race, then...

2. You would think the same rule would hold true
for DLC-oriented "Democrats" when we lefties actually
manage to win a primary and run a real Democrat: The
DLC types should "hold their noses" and vote for
the Democrat, no matter how lefty they perceive him
to be.

The fact that Lamont (the actual Democratic candidate,
as you so accurately observed) *APPEARS TO BE
LOSING TO A THIRD-PARTY CANDIDATE* in a
state that leans pretty heavily Democratic suggests
to me that the DLC-types who are always advising us
to "hold our noses" and vote for their Bozo are not
willing to return the favor when the shoes are on
our guy.

I further suggest that lefties remember this the
next time it's the DLC that is once again urging us
to "hold our noses and vote for the Democrat", even
if the "Democrat" supports torture, opposes women's
rights, gay rights, etc.
