Why the Republicans are attacking Clinton - a theory
Why pick this fight now? Why pit a very popular articulate ex President against a barely literate unpopular current President? Why open a debate over who should get the blame for 9/11?

One theory is that they literally can't help themselves - they hate Clinton So much, they just can't hold it in.

But another, and more troubelling theory, is that they have determined that there aren't enough undecided voters to make a difference. This election will be won or lost based on the passsion of their party faithful. Clinton Bashing gets the Republican party faithful wound up. So let's bash Clinton.

A third theory that I don't pay much creedence to, but I know some of you do, is that they really don't have to try to win at all; the election is already stolen. They could have Bush confess to an homosexual affair while crapping on the American Flag and they'd still win in a walk, because that's how the machines work.

Are there enough independents to swing the election?

1. They expected that Clinton would remain "polite." They got cozy
with him, and * kept him close by appointing him to positions to help with Katrina etc. Then the "path" came out and BC had enough. Before that film, the rumors BC was responsible at all for 911, were dismissed as RW fanaticism.

2. Here's my take on it...
1.) They obviously "hate" anything Clinton. So I think that one goes without saying.

2.) I think they bash Clinton because of Number 1, not because it helps bring out their base, though it may get some of their core riled up.

3.) Not sure how this relates to 1 & 2, but if anything it would go back to number 1. I think it is quite possible that the elections may get manipulated through voter roll reductions, machine problems in high democratic areas, and actual machine (diebold) manipulations.

3. Personally, even though you may be right in that they attacked
Clinton to motivate their voters, I think the overall conclusion is that it backfired on them. I suspect that the right-wingers who still can think, also want to know what happened to us on 9/11. How is it that we didn't even launch one jet plane to respond? So, they know this is a necessary pain they must undergo to find the truth.

5. three reasons
1) Habit. They did it so often, that they can't help themselves.
2) Hatred - as you say, they can't hold it in.
3) FEAR. Once big dog starts in on them, knowing that even today, he is far more popular than their boy king could ever be, they will realize how insane their policies are and how idiotic and dangerous their results have been.

6. It's a diversion from the real issues. Anything Clinton gets their minds
in the "right" direction for a while. Trouble is, Clinton bashing is so old it's even getting tiring for the once faithful Clinton haters.

11. I agree, and also with BC's analysis.
I have more heard more people, wish for the days of the Clinton Administration. At least Clinton gave a damn about the country, trying to help regular Joe Americans.(For disclosure I was once a Clinton basher also,Mea Culpa)

8. Bashing Bill CHANGES NEWS headlines from NIE, torture, Iraq, Afghanistan
to the "Bully Bill Clinton is blaming poor Bush" headline.

10. Well I admit it's changing the subject
But I don't think the story is actually Bully Bill CLinton is blaming poor Bush. Obvsiouly some conservatives are pushing that storyline, but people don't seem to be buying it.

12. The incident coverage takes up broadcast news time AND print space.
Airtime and HEADLINES that the most serious matters of this time are NOT getting.

And that is why even though I'm thrilled Clinton finally said these things, I wish he'd done it when it was MOST NEEDED back in 2002.

9. A distraction from the issues of torture, declaration of war on
"terra" that they slid through the back door, and the U.S. military junta. Bill Big Dawg can take care of himself against the rat bastards. Their ploy didn't work and neither will this one.
