Impeachment hearings: The White House prepares for the worst

http://www.insightmag.com/Media/MediaManager/impeachment.htm

Sources said a prelude to the impeachment process could begin with hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee in February. They said the hearings would focus on the secret electronic surveillance program and whether Mr. Bush violated the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Administration sources said the charges are expected to include false reports to Congress as well as Mr. Bush's authorization of the National Security Agency to engage in electronic surveillance inside the United States without a court warrant. This included the monitoring of overseas telephone calls and e-mail traffic to and from people living in the United States without requisite permission from a secret court.

<snip>

Sen. Arlen Specter, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and Pennsylvania Republican, has acknowledged that the hearings could conclude with a vote of whether Mr. Bush violated the law. Mr. Specter, a critic of the administration’s surveillance program, stressed that, although he would not seek it, impeachment is a possible outcome.

"Impeachment is a remedy," Mr. Specter said on Jan. 15. "After impeachment, you could have a criminal prosecution. But the principal remedy under our society is to pay a political price."

The more it gets discussed in the public square, the more people come to expect it.

1. I don't know the track record
of Insight Magazine for credibility. But I wouldn't care if Donald Duck was saying it. Anybody that keeps publishing this kind of stuff is a g-o-od thang.

5. Exactly, that was the reason for my comment on it being kept in the public
square, I don't really know anything about Insight either. And there are way too many "undisclosed sources" for my liking but hey, how long have they been getting away with "some people say" and similar stuff to frame the issues.

I want to keep hearing Impeach every 30 minutes on every radio, TV and printed in every issue of paper or magazine. You know, like they do with Missing White Girl or Ben/JLo/flavor of the day.

I want 4 inch letters jumping off the page of the tabloids screaming IMPEACH when I'm waiting in line to check out my groceries.

I want Helen Thomas to absolutely push Scotty to the edge by referencing this article "Today's Insight Magazine is reporting that the WH is getting ready for IMPEACHment hearings, can you tell us who is in charge of that team?" Every stock Scotty answer would simply confirm it"

  • can't comment about ongoing investigation
  • you'd have to ask the VP's office about that
  • simply thinking that question helps the terrorists who want to kill all good Republi um Americans
  • this WH is committed to doing the American people's business, in spite of those Democrats who would try to obstruct us
  • the President deserves and upordownvote, upordownvote, upordownvote

The first time impeach is ever mentioned during the WH press breif, I am opening a bottle of champagne - because it will get mentioned every day from then on....

3. I don't know. bush** strikes me as being too stupid and way too
arrogant to be worried about anything. He has Unca Dick to take care of things like this.

4. There must be more going on
then even us political junkies know about. I think the Repugs are waking up to the fact that BushCo is in big trouble and the blow back is going to hit everyone.
