Patsy Madrid---UNBELIEVABLE!

She is so bright and passionate about New Mexico and the United States. Anyone who lives in NM should volunteer some time for her campaign. She is currently NM Attorney General.

My first day at her campaign headquarters was today; I was paying attention to my work when I felt a top on my shoulder. I looked up to see her, and she offered her hand and said, "Thank you."

She then talked to me and some other volunteers about her campaign; she wanted to know what we thought of it, and she invited us to look at an upcoming campaign commercial, still not final. When we viewed it, she wanted our opinions.

I had one suggestion. She asked that it be included it in the message sent to her addy people; her communications director typed it in, and the message was off.

THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE, to use a worn out phrase, guys.

It's a House race considered crucial on a national scale. The factor that will win this race is "boots on the ground." If Madrid has enough volunteers, the scales will tip in her favor. If not, apathy and corruption will rule.

Seriously though, this IS what democracy looks like; it's more apparent in New Mexico, a state that has fewer people than most.

This race is so close that all will be determined by volunteers. Karl Rove is coming to NM this weekend to host a $5000 per head function for Heather Wilson--the mere thought of that is vulgar and disgusting. What kind of classist "democracy" is that?

It's close, and we need your help--not for ridiculous dinners, but in terms of "boots on the ground."

Patricia Madrid won her first campaign in 1978 when she became the first woman elected to sit as a district court judge in New Mexico. In 1998, she became the first woman elected Attorney General of the State of New Mexico, and in 2002 she was reelected in a landslide. She has been married to L. Michael Messina, an Albuquerque lawyer, for over thirty years, and has a son, Giancarlo, who graduated from the University of New Mexico and works in Washington DC.
