Suicide attacks in Iraq at all time high: US military

BAGHDAD (AFP) - The past week has seen the highest number of suicide attacks in Iraq since the March 2003 US-led invasion, with half of them targeting security forces, a coalition spokesman has said.

"In terms of attacks, this week's suicide attacks were at the highest level of any given week, with half of them targeting security forces," Major General Caldwell told reporters in a briefing Wednesday.

He added that 50 percent of the car bombs in the past week were suicide attacks. Since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan this week, there has been a spike in attacks and scores have died in clashes and explosions.
