Okay, now the asswipes are messing with Keith Olbermann
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 01:53 PM by Democrat 4 Ever
Caught this over at Crooks and Liars. Ya think the chickenshit chickenhawks wouldn't be messing in their Depends if this had happened to them. -

Olbermann death threat powered letter made fun of by Murdoch’s NY Post

What would the conservative media be saying if Limbaugh was sent a letter like this? The NY Post: "POWDER PUFF SPOOKS KEITH"

Keith Olbermann flipped out when he opened his home mail yesterday. The acerbic host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Olbermann, who’s a frequent critic of President Bush’s policies, that it was payback for some of his on-air shtick. The caustic commentator panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post’s Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Olbermann’s pad on Central Park South, but preliminary tests indicated the substance was harmless soap powder. However, that wasn’t enough to satisfy Olbermann, who insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where doctors looked him over and sent him home. Whether they gave him a lollipop on the way out isn’t known. Olbermann had no comment.

You can be sure that it would be front page news for The Post with pictures of Limbaugh going to the hospital–including interviews with the police and anyone one else they could find to make a statement. Then there would be a tidal wave on FOX News–you know the drill.

This is a new low for the right wing media of this country. Since Keith didn’t go public with the story, obviously he was doing what the police wanted and made sure not to cause a scene. He took the correct measures to ensure his safety as anyone of us would. It’s an outrage that in these times, a public figure would get a threatening letter and take it seriously, and then the right wing media would make a joke of it.

Paula Froelich only serves to encourage the wackos on so that they’ll continue this behavior. What a total disgrace.

Here’s a public email if you want to send Paula your thoughts paula.froelich@nypost.com (please show more class than Paula)

I wonder if Keith will be speaking out about this tonight?

8. Yeah, its hard to take the high road, isn't? There isn't a bunch
in American history that deserves to have the bejeebers scared out of them more than the neocons and corporate hos. I would love to see how O'Lielly, Limpballs, et al would react if they got an envelope full of white powder. (Well, in all honestly Lush would probably try to snort it first.) This bunch of whiny ass babies would faint dead away if they thought they had received a death threat.

44. What it means is - our Keith has hit a nerve.
And looks like it's a really tender nerve.

How many detective novels are there that have the hero getting a death threat when he/she is starting to get too close?

Yep. I think Keith is getting under somebody's skin.

My vote's for rove. One of his minions here in California (across the country from him, so it presumably can't be tied to him) did the dirty work for him.

42. Then tell her that she's scum.
The important thing is to call them on this kind of bullshit behavior - each and every single time.

This is what I sent:

I just read your disgusting article about the white powder that was sent to Keith Olbermann. You seemed to think that it was oh so funny, didn't you?

So, you SUPPORT TERRORISM now? You think that it's OKAY to send members of the media white powder in an envelope in an attempt to terrorize?? Is that it, Paula?

Have you forgotten that the Post was sent anthrax back in 2001? Have you forgotten that people DIED from anthrax in 2001, Paula? But that's now okay, right Paula, because it's Keith Olbermann - a man whom sets journalistic standards that are so high you could never reach them?

You are no better than a terrorist yourself, Paula, and you are not fit to wipe the dirt off of the bottom of Keith Olbermann's shoes.

You are pathetic.

That was as nice as I could get.

22. Absolutely....perhaps even an AQ sympathizer.
Isn't it in AQ's interests to support this administration's actions in the ME? They are quite happy seeing the Great Satan killing its Army and Treasury fighting an idea. They are more than happy watching this bastion of secular freedom and democracy dividing itself, devolving into a torture supporting Banana Republic, our international reputation ruined for the forseeable future. Bush-Cheney has destroyed our moral high ground.

Last thing the AQ terrorists want is someone telling the truth about this administration that will cause a seachange shift in our foreign policy. KO is a threat to them. Too bad we never brought the original Anthrax terrorists to justice.

Paula,

I happened across your article while searching news items over the internet.

After I read your short write-up on this incident, I was prompted to write and ask what your intent or reason was for mocking what could potentially have been a serious case?

Letters such as these have caused shutdown of government offices and buildings so the law enforcement agencies take threats, even powder puff threats, very seriously.

I am at a total loss to see where you find any humor in this. Hopefully you can enlighten me by sharing your thoughts and reactions.

Thanks in advance for your time,

20. Here's mine:
Dear Ms. Froelich,

As you no doubt remember, the very first Anthax attacks were directed at journalists.
Something such as what happened to Mr. Olbermann should never be taken lightly.

Perhaps you didn't mean your article to come across as snide, or perhaps you did.
But, you too are a journalist, and imagine what would have crossed your mind had you
opened a letter and found a powdered substance.

Would your reaction have been much different? I hope not. In these times, it would be
ignorant not to react as Keith Olbermann did.

Maybe you should rethink tomorrow's column.

Regards,
Contrary1 (used my real name too)

25. these threats must be taken very seriously
What happened to Keith is extremely serious. He did the right thing by calling 911 and getting checked out at a hospital. For that newspaper to mock him is really really low.

Some years back, when the Unibomber was sending bomb packages to scientists at academic/research institutions, we had a bomb scare here at work. My workplace is involved in a high-profile NASA project, so when one of the scientists received an unmarked package, he called security, and they contacted the police and bomb squad. I got to watch how they "detonated" the package, which was fascinating. Fortunately, the package contained a journal! It was funny, but also *not* funny. Sometimes, we use humor to conceal our anxiety about a serious situation. But what that newspaper did, poke fun at Keith in a malicious way, is totally reprehensible.

Wow, they must be desperate. :sarcasm:

KO is on television. People on television get death threats. If it isn't political, it's because the nut doesn't like their tie or the way they say good evening or the fact that they're beaming messages into the nut's fillings. Fictional characters on TV dramas get death threats, as do the actors playing them, because of the actions of the character. This will not be the first death threat KO has received, nor will it be the last. The fact that he received the letter is sadly not surprising - the sneering and hypocritical reaction of a Murdoch title is another matter.

Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 03:46 PM by DianaForRussFeingold
"The anthrax attacks of 2001 are now so out of memory that it's hard to recall the panic and fear caused by the appearance of those first envelopes, spilling deadly powder and containing threatening letters. But according to a LexisNexis search, between Oct. 4 and Dec. 4, 2001, 389 stories appeared in the New York Times with "anthrax" in the headline. In that same period, 238 such stories appeared in the Washington Post. That's the news equivalent of an unending, high-pitched scream of horror." Keith is a Hero! I hope they find whoever sent the letter to Keith Olbermann.

On what planet did you think that publishing details about a terroristic threat was a good idea? Were you on planet earth when several Democratic Senators recieved Anthrax in the mail? Didn't you think that maybe, just maybe, releasing the details might endanger an investigation? Thankfully, this time, it wasn't the real thing. But thanks to you, the people who did this are more likely to get away with it. You helped the terrorists today. Don't you dare try to lecture anyone, at anytime, about patriotism ever again. We now know better.
