Clearly any sport where spears are hurled through the air has the potential for disaster.

9. She was the judge. It's easy to get distracted......
I used to throw shot-put and discus and people/judges got hit all the time. Thank god we didn't have javelin.

8. Actually the athlete that threw that
should get something for accuracy. You know how hard it is to hit a foot squarely like that? I used to try with lawn darts but never got a hit. I'm bad aren't I? B-)

11. when working construction some years ago
I jumped from an open window onto a 1X4 that had a 20 penny nail (about 4 inches long) sticking up through it...and yes, directly onto the nail. I looked down to see about an inch and a half of nail sticking through the top of the middle of my shoe. The only recourse was to pull my foot straight up and head to the doctor. Miraculously (or rather through the fates of biology) it struck nothing but soft tissue and no major arteries or veins...the sum total of my treatment was a tetanus shot and some band-aids...oh, and I stayed off my foot for a couple of days.

12. okay, I suffer with gout flare ups sometimes and the pain is so bad,
it feels like a spear in my foot. No kidding.
