5. Another pretty strong Democratic area
They must enjoy going to liberal cities and when the liberals come out to protest them, putting them in free speech zones and jailing them for free speech. They seem to get a kick out of it.

I've tried to read it about twenty times since 2003, and have never been able to get past the first few chapters.

But I finally did, and its a great read.

On edit: the SOS is an absolute GOP fool.

44. Gov & SOS are repukes, but that could change in 6 weeks
The mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul are democrats. You can't get elected as mayor in either city unless you are a Dem. But St. Paul has unfortunate history of electing dem mayors who then show repuke colors (Norm Coleman & Randy Kelly).

10. Let a New Yorker tell you what to expect
Your entire city will be turned into a police state. Your city will be rented out for the GOP's private party as if it were Disneyland closed to the general public for a private event. Your streets will be barricaded, your cops will be dressed in riot gear and armed with machine guns, there will be checkpoints that look like those at the Berlin wall. Your protestors will be rounded up in orange nets, snagged in groups of 20 or more, wrapped in the nets, cuffed, herded onto buses, and jailed for the duration without charge so as not to annoy the Greedy Old Pukes. Oblivious, ignorant Republican pigs will take over your streets, your clubs, your restaurants and hotels, flaunting their irresponsibility, their cigars, their horrible outfits. You will be locked out of your favorite places, your parks, your shops. Small business ownwers inside the Republicans Only Green Zone will suffer - nobody will reimburse them. Most of your neighbors will split town for the duration. Thousands of likeminded people will join you to march in the fenced off streets while riot cops monitor your every move. The convention hall will be encircled with steel fencing, layers of cement barricades, and National Guard.

Lucky you.

30. Really? It was August. It was unbearably hot.
I remember ugly women in extra large t-shirts and how frightened they were of us. By the end of the week we were so angry we'd get right into their face and say BOO and they'd jump out of their skins. We'd get right in their face and say GO HOME. It was one-on-one combat by the end. Our protest march had to be one the largest in NY history but we felt so pushed around, so battered, from the helicopters and the barriers and the fuck-you attitude from the revelling who-cares-what-you-think repug tourists here to exploit our city's grief that I would have willingly wrestled each one to the ground just to spit in their face. There was universal outrage. New York was on fire.

26. Wow, I can hardly wait. But we'll have one thing you didn't have.
They'll get to test out their torture bill on us. It'll be two years old by then so they should have the bugs worked out. I can't wait. I've never been waterboarded before so this will be something entirely new for me.

In my experience, St. Paul cops have generally treated protesters pretty decently so I suspect they'll have to haul in outsiders for this. Gotta teach them protesters a lesson ya know.

Looks like it's time to sell my place and move. I just hope this news doesn't cause property values to drop too much. Maybe I'll post an ad at Freeperville. I'd have a better chance of selling it there.

It's strange to think that something like "getting waterboarded" could actually happen but at the rate things are going, it might not be all that far-fetched. But you're right that sometimes ya just gotta laugh because in times like these, a sense of humor is about the only thing that will get you through.

22. Correction: Apparently it will be in St. Paul.
"The four-day event reportedly will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul."

http://www.startribune.com/462/story/705262.html

Godfuckingdammit anyway. I don't want those bastards here. Aside from the smell and general repulsiveness, I sure as hell don't need my taxes skyrocketing just to pay for their goddamn hatefest. I hope the Mayor of St. Paul tells them to go somewhere else. I wonder if that's even an option. The taxpayers are still footing the bill for building the goddamn Xcel Center to we should have some say in the matter. Well, at least in theory anyway.

Excuse my language but this REALLY pisses me off.

27. Looks like they updated the article with a bit more info.
But they still list the Xcel Center in St. Paul as the place where it will be held so I suspect most of the infestation will happen there. Goddammit this sucks.

The dates are Sept. 1-4. Shit. I suppose that means we can expect a terrorist attack here sometime between now and then. Gotta have a big hole in the ground to show off so they can remind people that they're the only ones that can keep us safe from the terr-ists. Fuck. We are so screwed.

They're claiming this will bring in about $150 million to the Twin Cities. Yeah, right. What a crock. I'll be calling the Mayor this afternoon to voice my extreme displeasure on this.

47. Do I book a vacation or start making my protest posters?
I'm kind of surprised they chose the Xcel Center because downtown St. Paul is rather small and hard to get in and out of without getting tangled in horrendous traffic jams. Lots of narrow one-way streets and a big river right through the middle.

If one were so inclined, one could look at this as a huge money-making opportunity. Nothing brings out the ladies (and gentlemen) of the evening like a convention of family-values Republicans. Rumor has it that even New York had to import more hookers for the '04 convention, and I'm quite sure that St. Paul and Minneapolis together don't have enough 'hos of either gender to keep that collection of pervs satisfied.
