I have a confession to make...
I used to like and respect John Stossel. He would appear on 20/20 some years ago, do one of his stories and I would think 'wow, what a smart guy'. I actually thought he was one of the better reporters out there. His reports came across as well researched with a lot of clarity.

DUer's would tell about how he is and I didn't fully believe it...that is until last night. It took watching him stutter and unable to specify what Media Matters had done that was so horrible for me to realize just how utterly stupid he is.

The man claims to have read Media Matters, is shocked by what he says is a 'smear', but cannot offer up one solitary bit of false information. Where is that unbiased truth that Stossel claims to have? If the left has treated him and O'Lielly so wrongly why hasn't he done an indepth 'Give me a Break' story exposing the so-called lies?

John Stossel was intellectually nekid and I'm ashamed I liked him.

I also used to like Nancy Grace, until she became completely bonkers.

3. He had at least one good report that I can remember
The one where he fought for cannabis legalization. He interviewed some cops that all said they don't want to arrest cannabis users because they're so peaceful. It was good from start to finish. At the time I had no idea he was such a GOP douchebag.

4. You are forgiven...
I think we've all learned a little more than we'd like to know about various people
lately.

I've crossed a number of people off of my internal reading list over the course of
the last few years.

Irredeemably, I'm afraid.

5. Here's an interesting tidbit
Colbert modeled his TV reporter personality after a morphing of John Stossel and Bill O'Reilly. He told that to Teri Gross on FreshAir a few months back

If you watch Colbert, its pretty clear

6. Maybe he changed. I saw an intelligent show he did on relative risks 10+
years ago and it was very well done, and I thought, helped a lot of people put risks they take on every day and once a year in a good perspective. I haven't seen him lately, so have no idea what he's doing, other than comments I read here and elsewhere.

7. Don't feel bad.....
I also used to like him...years ago. Back then he was a very good consumer reporter and I enjoyed many of his pieces. But then, I once also loved Geraldo Rivera! When I was a kid living in New York, Geraldo Rivera was then an investigative reporter for the local ABC news station. Among some of the things he did, he did an excellent job uncovering abuses at a State mental hospital. Both of them now are right wing shills and their work bears no resemblence to what they once did.

8. I use to like Geraldo too
Before his talk show, he was on 20/20 with Barbara Walter and Hugh Downs. He seemed like an outstanding investigated reporter back than.

9. Do not feel bad about this. You will
recover. I spent a number of years defending Richard Nixon, but happily I recovered and took off the blinders.
