"War is sweet for those who have not tried it."
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 06:33 PM by Coventina
Words written in 1515 by Erasmus of Rotterdam.

It begins a lengthy anti-war essay.

Those words really jumped out at me. They seem to really sum up the chicken-hawk idiocy that the Bush Admin embodies.

Here are some more choice quotes from the essay:

"If there is any human activity which should be approached with caution, or rather which should be avoided by all possible means, resisted and shunned, more widely destructive, more persistently ingrained, more hateful, more unworthy in every respect of man, not to say a Christian."

....

"War is now such an accepted thing that people are astonished to find anyone who does not like it; and such a respectable thing that it is wicked - I might almost have said "heretical" - to disapprove of this which of all things is the most abominable and the most wretched."

...

"In fact war is born from war, a real war from a counterfeit one, a huge war grows from a tiny one..."

Seems we haven't progressed at all in 500 years....

*sigh*
