1. Where does it say invading Iraq made us safer?
I sure don't see that. It looks like the invasion only made things worse.

3. Now this is very interesting...
looks like we have done good to keep the top on its toes, but they aren't important anymore. And the war in Iraq looks to be one of many ways we are fucking up.

5. Status quo...
The opening paragraph says it all: "We've done our job, but we need to keep doing it..."

I wonder when this "report" was really written. I just can't believe that George the Torturer could declassify a report of this magnitude in the last 48 hours.

Sorry, Chimpie, I just don't believe you anymore...

8. Re-Reading It
This is an OLD one, released to placate people. It refers to al Zarqawi - who has been dead for two months!

in April. Zarqawi was still alive during this assessment.

16. yep
<snip>

The Iraq conflict has become the 'cause celebre' for jihadists, breeding a deep resentment of U.S. involvement in the Muslim world and cultivating supporters for the global jihadist movement

I'm amazed they released it.

"If this trend continues threats to US interests at home and abroad will become more diverse, leading to increasing attacks worldwide."

Seriously, I am amazed they released this. I guess they think they can totally control the message enough so that the actual content won't matter.

19. Please go to TPM
www.talkingpointsmemo.com is saying that there are 2 NIE's out there, one on Iraq specifically. You know that if they were going to declassify parts and release them publically, they would only release the parts that support continuing the war on terra, and saying that the war in Iraq supports the overall war on terra.

21. My my. That was certainly fast. Amazing how they can respond
with the speed of light and how very agile they can be on select matters of controversy... when they hope it will do some damage control.

Now if only they would answer all of Rep. Waxman's and Conyers' extremely pointed letters and questions on the manipulation of Iraq pre-war intel of the last 3 years of futile questioning.. with the same alacrity.

22. Jane Harmon:
Transcript: Harman Reveals 2nd Iraq Report
By Justin Rood - September 26, 2006, 2:35 PM

As reported here earlier, here are Rep. Jane Harman's (D-CA) comments this morning about this second secret Iraq report, from CQ Transcriptions:

"I have also learned that there is a on Iraq -- specifically on Iraq -- that has been left in draft form at the National Intelligence Council. That is because some of our leaders don't want us to see it until after the election. It should be clear five years after 9/11 that we need accurate and actionable intelligence -- actionable in real time -- and we need our leaders to read that intelligence and cite it accurately. Sadly, we're doing better on the first piece; we're not doing better on the second piece."

23. Josh Marshall:
Let's review what we know.

This morning at TPM we got word that in addition to the already reported April Iraq/Terrorism NIE, there was another NIE exclusively on Iraq. We talked to various Hill sources who confirmed its existence. And then Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), ranking member of the House intel committee discussed the report and called for its release at an event at the National Press Club.

Only there was another wrinkle to the sources. Hill sources tell TPMmuckraker that the administration has been sitting on the report, trying to prevent its dissemination before the election, presumably. And it turns out, from what we've heard, that this NIE actually hasn't been given the official "NIE" label because doing that would have required sharing it with various members of Congress.

The President has already said he's releasing "parts" of the April NIE -- which likely means it'll cleansed of all the important details. But both should be released. The April NIE and this NIE that dare not speak its name too.

And the only way that will happen is with pressure from constituents. Call your representatives and senators. Rep. Harman has noted the existence of the separate Iraq report and called for its release before the election. Find out from your member of Congress whether they want it released to or not. Where do they stand?

24. LOL!! The idiot thinks a "diffuse" threat is a good thing!
I kid you not.

Here's what * said to reporters in the East room today:

Negroponte “is going to declassify the document as quickly as possible — declassify the key judgments for you to read yourself,” Bush told reporters in the East Room. “And he’ll do so in such a way that we’ll be able to protect sources and methods ... that our intelligence community uses.”

Bush said the full report shows “that, because of our successes against the leadership of al-Qaida, the enemy is becoming more diffuse and independent.”

Here's the http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&defl=en&q=define:diffuse&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title">definition of diffuse which bush obviously never read before opening his yap.

...and finally here it is in context within the declassified section:

We assess that the global jihadist movement is decentralized, lacks a coherent global strategy, and is becoming more diffuse. New jihadist networks and cells, with anti-American agendas, are increasingly likely to emerge. The confluence of shared purpose and dispersed actors will make it harder to find and undermine jihadist groups.

Idiot. He still hasn't mastered the language. How in hell is "diffuse" a good thing?

26. In some situations, diffuse=diluted, hence weaker; BUT
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 05:58 PM by Qutzupalotl
... not when you're talking about a lethal enemy that already blends in with civilians.

On edit:

... AND your only strategy to combat them involves bombs. Then you're really fucked.
