Blow To Bush - Congress Unlikely To Pass Wiretapping Program

Congress unlikely to pass wiretapping
LAURIE KELLMAN
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Congress is unlikely to approve a bill giving President Bush's warrantless wiretapping program legal status and new restrictions before the November midterm elections, dealing a significant blow to one of the White House's top wartime priorities.

House and Senate versions of the legislation differ too much to bridge the gap by week's end, when Congress recesses until after the Nov. 7 elections, according to two GOP leadership aides who demanded anonymity because the decision had not yet been announced.

House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters Tuesday that his chamber would bring up a bill by Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M. Asked whether that version could be reconciled with the Senate's White House-approved bill, Boehner replied:

"We'd like to, but I think that might be a stretch."

4. We know that Bush thinks he's above the law... he doesn't care
He has broken the law by signing everything that reaches his desk and picking out peices of the laws that suit him... He doesn't care... and if you think they haven't been spying on telephone calls and internet sites before bush was sitting in office, think again.

8. He's never going to have another good one.
What he has put into play has no good consequences, not even for his rich, inherited wealth idiot friends.

7. It's not a blow, it's a ploy.
The repug's can't have their hands on this before election. It's would/could make them look bad, and possibly swing some voters, as they know this is a sensitive issue.

If they hold onto control, watch for it to reappear.

9. Of course.
But you assume they'll hold onto control. Which doesn't actually matter. If they do, THEY are ones with the tiger by the tail. THEY are the ones dealing with the anger, the debt, the war..........all of it.

Republicans keeping control of Congress will not be a happy event for the Republicans. It will be almost as much a disaster for them as for the rest of us.
