1. That arrogant, screaming little stuffshirt twit is more than I
can bear. The sooner they yank him off mike and trade him to FAUX snooze for a pair of dirty socks, the better.

Not worth the turd fog he's made of.

2. Appealing to numbers: Logical Fallacy
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:22 PM by JustFiveMoreMinutes
"Argumentum ad numerum (argument or appeal to numbers). This fallacy is the attempt to prove something by showing how many people think that it's true. But no matter how many people believe something, that doesn't necessarily make it true or right. Example: "At least 70% of all Americans support restrictions on access to abortions." Well, maybe 70% of Americans are wrong!

This fallacy is very similar to argumentum ad populum, the appeal to the people or to popularity. When a distinction is made between the two, ad populum is construed narrowly to designate an appeal to the opinions of people in the immediate vicinity, perhaps in hope of getting others (such as judges) to jump on the bandwagon, whereas ad numerum is used to designate appeals based purely on the number of people who hold a particular belief. The distinction is a fine one, and in general the terms can be used interchangeably in debate rounds. (I've found that ad populum has better rhetorical effect.) "

4. do they have the argumentum ad ignoramus?
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:24 PM by Gabi Hayes
that seems to be the largest group to which the fascists seem to successfully appeal

13. With Americans having an avg of 5 to 8th Grade comprehension
I wouldn't call it ignoramus but more lack of training in critical thinking and world issues.

Hence Authority figures are looked upon as always supplying the correct and most beneficial information to the general public.
(Why did Animal Farm just cross my mind??) Those authority figures who have power and control issues, thimk more of themselves and their cronies.

6. it's already over, FWIW. I might tape it at 5, just to see what idiotic
excuses he makes for the obvious market maniupulation that's occurring

can't wait to see how long after the election before prices skyrocket. in the interim, watch what happens to heating oil/natural gas prices as it begins to cool off. my guess is that those prices do not follow those of gas/diesel oil (or is diesel the same as heating oil, and, if so, is there any way for the market to distinguish between the two?)

11. bu$hco has been manipulating the prices, no doubt in my mind.
I don't pay much attention to heating oil/natural gas prices as I live in an area of Texas that doesn't get that cold in the winter, and my home is mostly electric, save for my dryer and water heater, so I really don't know the answer to your last question. Pretty sure someone on DU would know, though.

5. Bowtie loser is the smarmiest, most self-important little shit
I think I've ever seen. No chance of taking one for the team here. I'd rather slide down a 50' razor blade.

8. Right. O'Really is so over-the-top, it's funny to watch.
Funny, but tragic in the knowledge that it isn't intended to be funny.

I anticipate the day when we are able to pull this country out of the mire and get back on track. When that happens, I hope there are a number of Olbermanns and Stewarts out there asking these moronic pundits (Hannity, Coulter, etc); "What the hell were you doing when all this shit came to pass?"

9. I'm with you - at least the Billous One makes me laugh at him
The One Who Used To Be Bow Tied just makes me ill - reminds me of all those milque toast privledged little shits I had to go to school with - they were all closet sadists, picking on smaller kids (until I caught one & gave him a "swirly" in the second floor bathroom.)
