Bolton Nomination dead, so Rethugs cancel Darfur Hearing
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 02:07 PM by TayTay
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee had a hearing scheduled for this Wednesday to talk about Darfur and the critical situation there where millions of people are at risk of dying from war, famie, drought and so forth. US Amb. to the UN, John Bolton was scheduled to speak there and talk about what the US was doing to help out.

Well, since the Bolton nomination in the Senate has been cancelled because they don't have the votes, apparently the Repubs have cancelled the hearing. First they moved it to Thursday, now it's postponed. Another instance of 'compassionate conversatives' doing what they doing, saving their own asses from embarrassment.

See the announcment, with all the cross-outs for shifting times and places at the SFRC website:

4. I am of two minds on this
On the one hand, it was John Bolton testifying and that is it's own kind of awful.

But to cancel an important hearing on a humanitarian crisis where millions are at risk of death because it's politically uncomfortable is just reprehensible.

So much for values of any kind, family or otherwise. These people are scum.

6. "You won't support our neo-Himmler for the UN...
so we won't stop the genocide of people in Africa."

Am I missing a connection, or are Republicans really that twisted, evil and sociopathic?

7. Given that several House Dems have been arrested
protesting outside the Sudanese Embassy, I think this is one of those things to put to rest thr "no difference between the parties" bullshit

8. Hey, one of those was Jim McGovern, from Mass
He's a good man. I was happy to see that. (I think another MAss Cngressman was also arrested that day, but I don't recall who. Anyone know?)
