Values Voter Summit’ Features Attack on ‘Faggots,’ Claim That Gay Rights Movement Inspired ‘From The Pit Of Hell Itself’
This weekend, some of the nation’s leading conservatives — from Tony Snow and Attorney General Gonzales to Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AK) to Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity — appeared at the Family Research Council’s “Values Voter Summit.”

An hour and a half after Snow’s speech, Bishop Wellington Boone, founder of the Wellington Boone Ministries, took the stage and announced, “I want the gays mad at me.” Boone said that while “the gays” are “saying a few things” about him, “they’re not coming at me strong.” In an effort to change that, Boone declared:

Back in the days when I was a kid, and we see guys that don’t stand strong on principle, we call them “faggots.” … that don’t stand up for what’s right, we say, “You’re sissified out!” “You’re a sissy!” That means you don’t stand up for principles.

As Right Wing Watch notes, another speaker at the conference later claimed “the gay rights movement was inspired ‘from the pit of hell itself,’ and has a ’satanic anointment.’ … He suggested that the anti-Christ is himself gay, citing a verse from the book of Daniel saying the anti-Christ will have no desire for a woman.”

Full transcript:

BOONE: This matter of gay — I want the gays mad at me. I’m not on enough of their hit lists. Bless God. I want to tell you something, and I’m gonna get here, and I hope I don’t embarass anybody about this here. But I want to say something to you, that I’m not afraid of these people. And they do play dirty tricks, and they do try to, you know, you know, do stuff with your mailing lists, and they’re really nasty about trying to stop us from, you know, taking away their perversion.

But I want to tell you something is, they don’t know, we’re driven by God to deal with this stuff, and I want to say to you that, in this regard, I’m not playing with you. That when it comes to the matter of this gay stuff, I know that a family is not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. It’s a man and a woman. That’s the creative order, and I’m not backing down. I’m standing flat-footed on that right there.

Everywhere I get to speak, I am guarded by the grace of God, being strong on it. Now they’re fussing on it, they’re saying a few things, but they don’t have me, you know, in their, you know, on their web sites. They’re not coming at me strong, and I would say this. Back in the days when I was a kid, and we see guys that don’t stand strong on principle, we call them “faggots.” A punk is — and our people, I’m from the ghetto, so sometimes it does come out a little bit. I got another one I’m gonna say in a minute — — that don’t stand up for what’s right, we say, “You’re sissified out!” “You’re a sissy!” That means you don’t stand up for principles. And I just believe that God hasn’t called us to be sissies on a principle level. We’re called to be, to stand up and be men. I’m not talking about as in gender. I’m talking about man of God, men in the marketplace, and when a U.S. senator or congressman says that he wants me to vote for them, and he’s not biblically based — if he doesn’t have God as his Lord, how can somebody that doesn’t feel the need for God lead me?

1. Hate and Ignorance, their only two values
They get the ignorant base fired up to hate segments of our society which results in financial contributions. I look forward to the next civil war.

3. Odd, considering that Jesus hung out with 12 guys most of the time
What about Catholic priests, and monks, and nuns?

These people only make themselves look stupid by mouthing off.

18. Catholics aren't Christians.
At least, that's what this guy will tell you. Fundie Christians like this don't believe Catholics are "saved". Oh, they'll band together with them for a common cause, but as soon as that battle is won, watch out - they'll be turning on each other before you can blink.

In fact, that's long been a tactic I've thought about using against these religious whackos - emphasize their doctrinal differences like Paul did before the Pharisees.

4. All things considered...
if Boone were right, then God would be a sissified punk who won't stand up to the devil.

7. For crying out loud!
I'm sure I speak for many GLBT people on here when I say how frickin sick and tired I am of being the red hearing that gets drug up every fucking election year!!

As a gay man I cringe when it's an election year because we are turned into these evil bogeymen so that these right wing fuck-nuts can mobilize their base! Jesus...save me from your followers!

10. Same exact thing my son says every election cycle now...
yesterday, he called me and said "Guess what asshole's motorcade I am right behind on I71? Bush's! Don't worry Mom, I won't do anything to get arrested...unless they can tell I am gay through a car windshield."

It was simply ironic my son was stuck behind blivet's motorcade in Cincy...good thing I was not stuck near it..however, I may have the opportunity Wednesday when Blivet comes to New Albany. Might just have to get on 270 or 161 at some point.

It sucks to hear him say these things though...even though he laughs, I know it hurts him...he is a wonderful man with many many friends and people who love him...not because he is gay, but because he is a great human being.

Sigh.

12.  Now, remember, we're supposed to figure out how to "court" these folks!
Screw gay rights, reproductive rights, the separation of church and state-- haven't you been listening to the DLC bozos and conventional wisdom waterheads??? We need to appeal to the VALUES VOTER!

Never mind the fact that it's SOCIALLY LIBERTARIAN voters- independents and Republicans- turned off by these kooks who are really the ones in play. The ones who could boost our ranks and give us an unbeatable long-term majority; if, and only if, we would stop trying to out-Jesus and out Neo-con the GOP, be clear on our commitment to the separation of church and state, unapologetically call for an end to the Iraq war AND the drug war. If we would stand up for the bill of rights, against censorship, and for an inalienable right to privacy and the right of citizens to fully control their own bodies and personal decisions, from reproductive to end-of-life.

Nope! Doing all that might be too dangerous! It would be too much of a deviation from the playbook which has consistently lost us the last several elections. Yes, far more realistic, and honorable, to court these gay-bashing "values voters". :eyes:

13. Lemme reword his 'declaration' a little bit.
Back in the days when I was a kid, and we see guys that don’t stand strong on principle, we call them Jews. … that don’t stand up for what’s right, we say, “You’re Jewish!” “You’re a sissy!” That means you don’t stand up for principles.

As Right Wing Watch notes, another speaker at the conference later claimed “the Jewish rights movement was inspired ‘from the pit of hell itself,’ and has a ’satanic anointment.’ … He suggested that the anti-Christ is himself a Jew, citing a verse from the book of Daniel saying the anti-Christ will have no desire for the truth.”

Many keywords could be used in place of Jew or gay.

Now let us try it on another speech; this time replacing Jew with gay.

"Germany will regard the homosexual question as solved only after the very last gay has left the greater German living space... Europe will have its homosexual question solved only after the very last gay has left the continent." (Trial of the Major War Criminals Before the International Military Tribunal, Vol.3, Nuremberg, 1947, p. 35)

I feel it is VERY justified in calling these people nazis or nazi-like. They use the same playbook and the same tactics.

15. That can't be right. I was clearly TOLD I was the antichrist
by my High School girlfriend's fundy parents, many decades ago.

I mean, to be fair, before she started dating me, she was a Christ-loving, Bible camp-attending virgin. Afterwards, she was a Deadhead, on the pill, and moved to Humboldt County.

19. Family Research Council. Enough said.
Attendees pandering to their basest base - those blissfully ignorant of real life.

Loathesome as this is, it hasn't swayed any liberal votes.
