latest in men's war against women

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2374100,00.html

Women's rights campaigner shot dead in Afghanistan

A senior women's affairs official who has criticised the Taleban's treatment of women was shot dead outside her home in southern Afghanistan today.

Safia Ama Jan was getting into a car outside her house in the city of Kandahar when two gunmen on motorcycles opened fire.

-snip-

Mrs Ama Jan had worked as the provincial director of Afghanistan's Ministry of Women's Affairs since the Taleban were overthrown five years ago. She may have been targeted for her opposition to the Islamic extremists' attempts to limit women's involvement in politics and education.

As a well known women rights campaigner, she was aware that she was vulnerable to attack and had asked for official transport and personal bodyguards. The Afghan Government rejected these requests. It is thought that she was getting into a taxi on her way to work when she was killed.
-snip-
-------------------------------------

another woman will take her place because we women are more then half of the human population. and we will not stop striving for justice.

4. It's not so much what you wear, but your promotion of civil rights
for women that makes you a target in Afghanistan.

3. Title is pretty inflametory
I don't know -I guess as a man I should be happy to see an uppity woman shot down, but as a person, I can't help feeling disgusted an angry at this murder in Afghanistan.

I suppose one needs to consider whether one is an individual or a category.

6. guess you said it all:

"I don't know -I guess as a man I should be happy to see an uppity woman shot down, but as a person, I can't help feeling disgusted an angry at this murder in Afghanistan."

apparently a 'man' can be seperated from his 'person'

so 'man' is a construct?

20. men's war against women - the title of the post
If men are at war with women - shouldn't i be happy when men do well?

Of course this is deliberately missing the point of my post which had to do with categories verses individuals.

14. Where have I been???
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 12:33 PM by catnhatnh
US Army 72-73....Twice married,5 children, 4 daughters...living in a "minority" area of a white bread city '78-'80 and '86-'90...8 grandchildren 5 grand daughters, 2 of them 1/4 black...
In short, I have "consorted" with both minorities and females and actually have a vested interest (grand daughters) in the protection of both.It doesn't ameliorate my position-your post title IS inflamitory...

12. That's not men's war against women
It's one sociopath's war against women (or a woman). The degree to which the Taliban is also sociopathic
is a failure of individuals, not of all men.

18. Yes, It Is a War Against Us
Why is it that every time anyone dares to refer to male bigotry and organized oppression of women, there is little other than vindictive attack, the same phony "you're so unfair; you're tarring us all with the same brush" routine (sometimes ending with, "there's no bigotry against you, you bitch"), and this pretense that every single incident is somehow independent and unconnected to the rest of the pattern. Every single rape-murder lynching of a woman or girl is "personal," or they give the old "mental illness" excuse. They are deranged sociopaths, even though there is no evidence of it, and the act of murdering the "uppity feminist" is often cheered by many others there--are they all psychopaths? Remember the "Montreal Massacre," where the male mass-murderer said, "You're all a bunch of fucking feminists!" before murdering them? It is the result of a pattern of hateful thinking, which was taught and learned, not psychopathology.

A whole world of males paying women half of what they pay other males, and not promoting them--but that is all "individual" and "personal" too, right? Dare to mention their bigotry, and all you get is a group attack of hypocrites, no awareness or admitting of facts, until finally, I assume, the thread is over when the uppity woman has been made to apologize for daring to refer to the structures of things, rather than pretending we are "all free and equal," and that some of us do not block others of us. Remember also, do not refer to male violent oppression of us--convert all titles to "religious 'fundy' "--that's the way the censorship game is played here. "Male bigotry? What? I never heard of it."

25. "People Like You" is "Not" Bigotry
Oh, I am so put in my place! If all it takes for you to, what, stop being an egalitarian or equal-rights democrat, is to meet up with an independant perspective in the world, then, gee let me guess, you were not particularly our friend to begin with. You stop having your entire philosophy "because" a woman did not only cheer you and all you do? That is obvious hypocrisy, and doesn't even make sense.

And I think you meant to do it.

"Dare to mention their bigotry, and all you get is a group attack of hypocrites, no awareness or admitting of facts"

In that breathtaking statement, you not only called us hypocrites, but you impled that we were bigots who couldn't even see our own hatred of women
