3. Mel has a movie coming out, he's trying to make amends
It looks pretty obvious to me. Mel knows he stepped in some serious shit with his whole anti-Semetic rant. He knows he took lots of heat for his Passion movie. Now that he has another major movie coming out, he's trying to get into everyone's good graces. He knows that attacking the Iraq war is a safe bet, he's hoping that we'll forget about his past transgressions and think "wow, he ain't such a bad guy after all if he's bashing Bush".
