"Jihad" car commercial upsets U.S. Muslims...
Islam, i'd like to introduce you to Madison Avenue; Madison Ave/Islam, Islam/Madison Ave..."Hi." "Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name..."

CINCINNATI (Reuters) - A car commercial proclaiming a jihad on the U.S. auto market and offering "Fatwa Fridays" with free swords for the kids is offensive and should not be aired, Muslim leaders said on Sunday.

The radio advertisement for the Dennis Mitsubishi car dealership in Columbus, Ohio, has "a whole jihad theme," said Adnan Mirza, director of the Columbus office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

"They are planning on launching a jihad on the automotive market and their representatives would be wearing burqas ... ," Mirza said. "They mentioned the pope in there and also about giving rubber swords out to the kiddies -- really just reprehensible-type comments." http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyid=2006-09-25T133321Z_01_N24224533_RTRUKOC_0_US-AUTOS-JIHAD.xml&src=rss

Although Rush Limbaugh today was promoting a trip to Club Gitmo to relax from the strain of Jihad.

And I could care less about their religion or any for that matter. And fanatics and those who hold women down are contemptable.

Still, pointing out that this commercial was beyond tacky does not equate "being in a mosque".

edit: grammar

Here is a question for you guys...

What do you really think of "Islam" ??? Please be honest about it.

Do you believe it is a violent religion and should be wiped out, or do you think it's about peace? Or do you think it's no worse than Christianity or other religions and should be left alone as it is? That it's not our problem how they especially treat their women...

Quote:

"Since I'm not a Muslim, I my opinion has no validity."

So, Redstone, would you say we should just leave them to their own brutality because we are not one of them and it isn't our problem?

BTW, I am surprised you know about Zoroastrians. Not many do.

Quote:
"Some here still walk behind their husband and look at them like Mrs Bush does."

Yes, true, Monkeyman, but Mrs Bush does it out of ignorance and free will. Over there, there is no choice. Either you do what is expected or face the brutal consequesnces.

I know, religion has always been played by politicians to gain power, but this is getting too dangerous. And over here, we do have religion whackos, but so far, (not for long, though), our laws are seperated from our biblical beliefs...unlike the other part of the world.

14. I think freedom of speech is just a little higher up the totem pole.
Notice: the use of the phrase totem pole in my analogy was not intended, nor should be construed, as to encompass any type of racial, ethic, or any other type of slur against America Indiana's, the original owners of this great country.

I just happen to like the expression.

Ohio Car Dealership Dumps 'Jihad' Ad

The Associated Press
Tuesday, September 26, 2006; 12:10 AM

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A car dealership that planned to air a radio advertisement
calling for "a jihad on the automotive market" issued an apology and promised
not to use the commercial.

Several stations had already rejected the spot from Dennis Mitsubishi, which
boasted that sales representatives wearing burqas _ head-to-toe traditional
dress for Islamic women _ would sell vehicles that can "comfortably seat 12
jihadists in the back."

The dealership received sharp criticism after news reports about the proposed ad,
which was scheduled to run this week but never aired. The Council on American-
Islamic Relations decried it as disrespectful and divisive.

It "was simply an attempt at humor that fell short," dealership President Keith
Dennis said Monday in a prepared statement.

I find it hard to stoke up much outrage over silly ads ridiculing fundamentalists of any religious stripe - which is what this amounts to.

72. Ah, wait a minute: I actually agree with YOU. That was my point...
...when I first entered this thread. Somehow things have gotten mixed up.

have been all outraged. Except, I though it too was funny.

75. LOL! Sorry about the confusion - I agree with every post you've made in...
...in this thread.

And you're quite right.

My own feeling is this world would be a far better place if folks eased up about supposed "offenses" to their religious beliefs; it's caused a lot of misery over the centuries - and countless lives.

81. As a Muslim....
When I first heard about the ad I simply shook my head. Yes, I saw the humor, but I also saw where this would create an outcry from the Muslim community.

I can understand why many here don't see why American Muslims would become so prickly. Why should Muslims be so sensitive when there are ads that portray Jews, Indians, and other ethnic groups in a questionably humorous light, and they don't get upset.

Perhaps because currently the United States is not at war with 2 Jewish or Hindu countries. Maybe because Jewish and Christian charities are not regularly raided by the FBI before major holidays, and maybe because Christians and Wiccans among others are not profiled at airports. Maybe because no other religious group is given the pleasure of being deported to secret prisons or Gitmo for torture. (And may Allah Almighty forbid that anyone else will ever have to endure these things)

So, yes, American Muslims on the whole are a little sensitive to this form of stereotyping, even as humor. Perhaps, given a generation of peace and tolerance, we to will be able to laugh with you at what makes us look silly.

Inshallah.

Peace.

83. Sir, i thank you most graciously for your post here, i myself...
found this little, or more to the point 'small minded' ad campaign; all too indicative of america's seedy commercial underbelly...

so that here this is not, Sir, an attempt on my part to best one view, or moment in time over another please believe me, but rather an acknowledgment that commercialism given it's druthers will in time ignore virtually all of us my friend, while it seeks to stroke the wallet of merely a few;

therefore let us shake our collective head at the sordid fact that within some 3 weeks after the towers came down, the landscape was awash with little plastic american flags wing-nutted to the window frames of cars; $40 cars locked with $60 Clubs, that tattered them to remnants lickety-split in the course of driving to churches that preach only hate, while others were seen advantaging widows & the elderly for their life savings from within heinous scams that would not go to benefit any fallen anywhere...but into the bank account of yet another trickster, a charlatan...ah, american commercialism; prided at turning a sow's ear into a silk purse witness contemporaneously the bush admin

my greater sense is that you are correct here as well, "given a generation of peace and tolerance", perhaps we will then see, it is all behind us now

peace to you & yours, Sir ~

86. Tacky, but not unexpected. I'm waiting for "Patriot's Day" 9/11 sales.
You can shake your head, but now that Christmas seems to be starting already at the end of September, how far off can it be?
