Torture is Torture
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 03:35 PM by Jcrowley
Torture is torture no matter who does it, no matter what you call it, and no matter the circumstances. There is no such things as ‘limited torture,’ as its current advocates claim.  History shows almost without exception that once torture is allowed, its use spreads rapidly and becomes a routine practice of security forces.

Tactical human intelligence collection? No. It's Torture.

1. No exceptions on our part means no excuses for "them."
If we read the Geneva Convention narrowly, so will our enemies. That is a practical reason apart from just plain decency.

3. Follow up thought.
According to W., Jesus is the philosopher that made the most difference in his life. How does 'aggressive interrogation' square with loving thy enemies, turning the other cheek or the fact that they are doing horrible things to someone who is created in God's image and likeness?

2. Absolutely right. And there are big ramifications
Regarding that slippery slope you mentioned. Really, torture is an emotional response, not a policy. It suvberts reason, it subverts an objective view of the enemy, and reason guided approach. As such, it weakens the security forces and makes them emotionally manipulated.

as documented by the Red Cross = Even by Bush's OWN DEFINITION (organ damage or death)it's TORTURE... and this new legislation basically gives BUSH the right to definite iT HOWEVER HE WANTS... so can we take that to mean "more of same"??? Kinda sounds like it....
