Rep. Sue Kelly (R-NY) is talking about passing a memorial
'coin' act for the nation's disabled vets. $25 million out of $65 million has been raised to build a memorial, and I guess they'll be selling these coins to fund the balance.
Excuse me, but after reading this,

I'm a tad disillusioned that they can collect for a memorial, but continue to stint on actual care?

2. That'll probably hurt.
I've heard passing a stone is painful...passing an entire memorial, YOUCH! Better have a few stiff drinks first.

8. I Just Want To Say
VA hospitals used to be the worst in the US. Now they are the best.

6. How About A Memorial For Democratic Spine?
If the Democrats had any vertebae remaining, we'd have not had this ruinous and pointless war, or would have dealt properly with it long ago. Then we wouldn't have so many grievously-wounded soldiers.

Hell, half the Dems voted for this war, and many, including one very-prominant presidential contender, are still defending it.

(For the record, I go to college Upstate and I plan on voting in the NY-25, but I would love to see Kelly unseated.)

9. Americans would rather memorialize than take care of.
About the most offensive thing you can do in this country is to go off to war and not have the deceny to die so that people can celebrate your sacrifice with useless granite sculptures and parades; it's especially rotten if you go off to war and not only don't have the decency to get killed, but have the audacity to come back injured, and expect America to take care of you.

Sorry, Vets, but Americans -- especially Republicans -- only care about you because you become a tool for them to memorialize you with words and comparitively cheap monuments that cost them nothing to say but make them look good, or to haul you out as a prop on Veterans' day to celebrate your missing legs before they send you back to your group home where you nurse your alcohol addiction with other discarded heroes because you can't get any medical attention and at least the booze helps with the pain, both physical and spiritual.

10. Let's Fund a Memorial to the Republican Syndicate
b.1850 - d. 11/08/06

Cause of death: Acute hypocrisy and cynicism stemming from a metastaized cancer of ignorance, corruption and incompetence.

I think a simple granite monument, located in DC; maybe sunk, mid-channel, in the Potomac River. All that is seen above the surface - an oil barrel engraved with a "$" sign.
