Wikipedia: How Journalist Chris Wallace Was Attacked By President Clinton
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 11:15 AM by kurth
September 2006, Wallace interviewed former President Bill Clinton. The interview aired on September 24, 2006 on Fox News Sunday. Before the interview, it was agreed that Wallace would ask Clinton about the Clinton Global Initiative along with some other relevant political topics. <2>

As the fourth question of the interview and citing popular demand via viewer-submitted email, Wallace asked Clinton about the steps his administration had taken to eliminate the threats from Osama bin Laden. After an initial rebuttal, the visibily agitated Clinton made a personal attack, accusing Wallace of performing a "conservative hit job". Clinton remarked:

So you did Fox's bidding on this show. You did your nice little conservative hit job on me, I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you asked this question of? ... And you've got that little smirk on your face and you think you're so clever. But I had responsibility for trying to protect this country. I tried and I failed to get bin Laden. I regret it. But I did try.

In response to Clinton's charge of bias, Wallace said that Fox News Sunday had asked Bush administration officials "plenty of questions" of that sort. The left leaning media watchdog group Media Matters for America disputed Wallace's assertion. <3>

After the interview, Wallace commented, "All I did was ask him a question, and I think it was a legitimate news question. I was surprised that he would conjure up that this was a hit job." <4>

Poor little lapdog, he was just trying to get the former president to answer this little question from the public.

3. The big dog exposes the RW agenda and tactics with the truth and that
is an attack: may the big dog attack relentlessly through out the election campaign, exposing every Repuke lie and disastrous policy and action and showing them the same mercy as those we torture are shown mercy.

4. Good grief.

Isn't much of the quote attributed to Clinton fabricated? I only saw a clip of the interview, but in it Clinton said "You're asking me this question on Fox", not "So you did Fox's bidding on this show".

edit: Reading the transcript linked to from wikipedia, it looks like he did say that.
Good for him. :)

6. This part's funny
The article describes him as a "conservative journalist" yet offers no supporting details about what makes him conservative.

Likewise, this article offers no supporting details about what makes him a "journalist."

9. Clinton's objection, DID YOU ASK THE BUSHIES THIS QUESTION
was entirely appropriate, and Wallace lied. He has no idea if the questions were ever asked, but he assured Clinton they had. Let's see the PROOF, Chris.
