3. Couldn't help myself, had to vote squirrels... but seriously...
Things I read are probably the biggest influence. I try to read books that contradict each other so things I believe don't become things I assume.

7. I believe very much
in history. And while the George Santayana quote is oft quoted, it's true. Of course, we know this administration doesn't read books--or anything else for that matter, except perhaps for bank statements--so history holds no lessons for them.

If we ignore the lessons of history, and if we cannot move forward with a clean slate of expectations, we will never be able to learn anything new, nor will we be able to unshackle ourselves from the mistakes of the past.

9. The truth is where you find it
The key is not to mind what you are influenced by, listening to some but not others. The key is instead to recognize wisdom wherever it turns up. Now, it is unlikely in the extreme that it will be on a television news program but anything is possible.

Of the sources you mention I suppose my elders (a subset of the human race that is dwindling in a very depressing fashion) or the written word are where I most often find nuggets worth remembering.

This seems to me to be rather a peculiar question to ask, right out of the blue. I assume there is something of a story behind it. Would you care to share it?

12. Experience.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Or, as our illustrious king said, "Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice.......... (embarrassing silence)..... ya can't get fooled ag'in!"

15. I voted squirrels because
the beauty and wonders of nature keep me inspired........and on a side note: I once bought stock in a natural gas stock because the squirrels were very fat going into winter. We had a long cold winter and the stock did very well.
