I received a pro-Republican e-mail from an apparently, Republican, friend. I don't know how long we'll stay friends once she receives my response, but that's not the issue here. I read the e-mail carefully that she sent me and I realized that it was so cleverly written. What the Rove-style writer did was inflame the base then included a list of mostly Democrats that should be voted out of office. Very basic stuff. Make a copy and go to the polls. I know it must work, because this friend thought that it was common ground or she wouldn't have sent it.

Anyway, if someone can read it over, I'd appreciate your comments:

I appreciate the info, Sally, but there are far more pressing issues that concern me this election year. This one is a pimple compared to some of the other stuff.

For the record, I am not in favor of open borders and I think that Bush cut a deal with Vicente Fox which is why there were so many illegal aliens from Mexico allowed to come into our country during his two terms. I never understood how the Republican party can have such a clash in ideals. On one side, you have the corporate lobbyists who want the illegal aliens here because it's cheap labor for them, and then you have all the other Republicans who don't want them draining our social services.

I'm an Independent but I like order and I liked the program we had under the Democrats. I'm all for legal immigrants of all nationalities applying properly. Having lived in Central America for the first 20 years of my life, I know that people who apply here properly are here for all the right reasons. They not only already know English, but are eager to become Americans. In fact, having lived abroad, I know that English is taught in all the schools and everyone, but the very poor, were bilingual.

So, in essence, the key is to control the flow of the illegal immigrants to this country, and you will not have to waste time passing laws that are just really meant to inflame passions, right before the elections. The people you should be concerned with are not Democrats, but the Republicans who claim that illegal aliens are necessary because they do jobs that no American will do. The Democrat's reply to that is that Americans will work for any job that pays a fair wage. Democrats aren't crazy about the illegal alien issue either because it lowers the wages for Americans who are members of unions.

If the Republicans, who now control the house, Senate, executive branch and almost have the Supreme Court, REALLY wanted to stop illegal immigration, they could do it quite easily. They could do it by applying severe penalties for anyone who hires an illegal alien. I mean ANYONE. That includes the home owner who hires them to clean their house. If they suddenly couldn't find jobs, they would send word home and it would stop the migration to our country. The Republicans in power know this option exists, but they don't apply it. Why not? Because the Republicans in Congress don't really want to stop the cheap labor. They won't do it because they get campaign donations from corporations who want it to continue.

So look at your list again, and ask yourself, who benefits if you vote those people out? Answer: conservative Republicans. If stemming illegal immigration is what you want, you need more information to make sure that the Republican candidate isn't tied to corporate money that relies on cheap labor.

Sally, whether you're a Democrat or a Republican or an Independent, there is a lot of area that we common people agree with, but you need to pay close attention to what you're being told by your party. The Republican party, in particular, relies on divisive tactics to bring out their constituents on election day, but they're not really going to solve your problems. They just keep everyone off balance and do whatever they want to do once they're elected. You've already been through this once before. Just think back to Newt Gingrich's Contract for America. Campaign Reform was the cornerstone of that Contract and here they are with full control of the government and Campaign Reform is not only dead in the water, but the FBI has had to expand its corruption department because our Congress is out of control.

For example, they could pass a motion to give Bush dictator powers and give the troops $10 billion for armor, and use that vote to say that Dems voted against funding armor for the troops.


Conversely, they could add a measure to give health insurance to illegals to a bill Dems introduced to increase minimum wage.


Its a common practice, and thats how they win voters.

over backwards to help him win the nomination against a more RW candidate? They know Chafee will be LUCKY to be re-elected in RI - a more RW Republicon would not stand a chance there.

5. Good letter. If she's gonna send you this stuff, it's fair game for you to

send her some truth. You were polite and not nasty. You should "reply all" to the list if she did like most freeper emailers and left the whole address list on it. This provides strong incentive for freeper emailers to back the hell off.

I use to send the DU stuff all the time to my relatives, but I got an angry call from on of the wives because her husband's high blood pressure got critical. I'm a bit apprehensive since then.
