BUSH Unbelievable Statement To Wolf: War In Iraq "Just A Comma"
President Bush dismisses Iraq violence as “just a comma”

September 24, 2006
'Just a comma'
Posted 12:56 pm

Blitzer asked the president to respond to the nightmare that Iraq has become, but Bush wouldn't hear of it. He dismissed the ongoing crisis as "just a comma."

Here's the transcript:

BLITZER: Let's move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war, if not already a civil war…. We see these horrible bodies showing up, tortured, mutilation. The Shia and the Sunni, the Iranians apparently having a negative role. Of course, al Qaeda in Iraq is still operating.

BUSH: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that's the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there's also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there's a strong will for democracy. (emphasis added)

Even by Bush's already-low standards, it was a stunning comment. We're talking about a war that has claimed 2,700 American lives and seriously injured 20,000 more. It's a crisis that has, by any reasonable measure, made the threat of terrorism against Americans considerably worse. It's a misadventure that has cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, to fight a war sold under false pretenses, and mismanaged with almost child-like incompetence.

2. Despicable, alright,.... but it won't get far,.....
---- The nuance and implications of this exchange will largely be lost on Americans,.. even if they have it seriously reported. Bush's very first sentence,... "...an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people,.." is defective for the very reason that the US was willing to kill innocent people during its "shock & awe" bombardment,... but did Blitzer mention that? Of course not.

hill of bean, an iota, by those in power and neither do the hundreds of thousands of dead and wounded Iraqis.

4. Bush has to play his global movement card. He has nothing left.
And, yeah, he can't dwell on the specifics of Iraq, at all.

For the rest of us, it's frustratingly pointless, deadly, and ironically, counter to the goals of his own Administration's stated interests. Reminds me of Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

18. Good analogy ... and will our crazed "Captain Ahab" hesitate
to sink our entire "Ship of State" in order to pursue his "Big White Whale"? Hah! Why would anyone ever think that?....

Problem is, not only did he decide to forget about bin Laden when he couldn't be captured, Saddam the whale has long since been plopped in prison. So there's nothing to continue this mad enterprise for except his own, petty pridefulness about having invaded Iraq (on a lie) in the first place. Doesn't matter; he won't admit he was wrong no matter what happens to prove it because he's a f**king PSYCHOPATH, and they never admit they're wrong or show remorse.

I remember how he strutted and smirked a lot more in the past than he does today, when his popularity was way up there and he felt he couldn't be touched by criticism because the people were buying his every deception. I can only hope that with things turning south on every corner for that psychotic SOB, he's feeling tormented even half as much as we have been for these years since he stole the pResidency.

He can call Iraq a "comma" all he wants and say he thinks history will prove him right; but that's brazen BS and he knows it. He's seeing "history" being written RIGHT NOW on that score, and it doesn't show him and his administration to be "right" at all -- rather quite the opposite.

Can we imagine how the families of dead and wounded American soldiers must have felt when they heard him call Iraq a "comma"? (Not to mention how all Iraqis who learn of the comment will feel.) I have a hunch he's going to be hearing a LOT of harsh criticism from military quarters after that height-of-arrogance remark he threw out so casually.

I also can't help but wonder how things will develop if the military en masse finally has a bellyful of this impertinent spoiled-brat emperor's mistakes and bad decisions and starts giving us all the real scoop on just how badly this administration HAS mismanaged everything related to military deployments....

Fact is, we're already seeing a lot of those who once backed the Puppet pResident turning on him and distancing themselves from him. Those who care about their reputation or popularity now that the Chimp's time in the limelight is shortening might keep coming out in droves to show they've abandoned him and "never thought he was right in the first place." This would be people who once stood by him, so it will have more impact than when WE criticize him. Many Repukes are ready to kick him to the curb already as an albatross, and that sentiment IMO can only grow as time keeps ticking by.

6. bush doesn't even understand the importance of commas
What an idjut. He can't even choose an appropriate analogy.

Commas are extremely important. Put a comma in the wrong place and one can entirely change the meaning of a sentence.

But then again, bush couldn't even bomb the right country after 9/11. Metaphorically speaking, he put a comma in the wrong place and he has subsequently affected our safety and security. He has created more terrorism and he has made the problem many times worse.

Signed:

Just one more English teacher with contempt and disgust for the Moran-in-Chief.

44. a comma, a number, a date
and when the military death toll hit 2,604 it was "just a number"

But I just gave him a patient smile. "2,740 dead Americans may seem like a big number to you," I explained, "But almost as many American soldiers -- 2,604 -- have now been killed in the Iraq war. And a number like this isn't a sign of some sort of problem -- as White House spokesman Tony Snow put it when U.S. military deaths in Iraq reached the 2,500 mark, it's just 'a number'! It doesn't mean anything!"
http://www.chinapost.com.tw/editorial/detail.asp?onNews=&GRP=i&id=88946

and on 1st anniversary of Katrina fiasco is was "just a date"

"It's a time to remember that people suffered and it's a time to recommit ourselves to helping them," Bush said Wednesday. "But I also want people to remember that a one-year anniversary is just that, because it's going to require a long time to help these people rebuild."

17. Similar statement "a nanosecond"
From an APJ e-mail: Bush's Cheapening of Human Life is terrifying by
Steve Young
A nanosecond that lasted 6 years

Sit in on President Bush's meeting of right wing propagandists in the
Oval Office. Sean Hannity was there but when he spoke of it on his
show, never alluded to the political leaning of the "talk show hosts"
who were invited to the meeting. With the lack of full information, I
assumed that Stephanie Miller and Al Franken were there too. But I tellya.

Giving us a private peek into the inhumanity that lies in wait with this
president in power, was a column today in the L.A. Times
(http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-boot20sep20,0,7630894.column?coll=la-opinion-center)
by predictable White House apologist Max Boot, who was at the Oval
Office pep rally. Never one to applaud his tilt, Boot did the
applaudable favor of letting us read for ourselves just how maniacally
dangerous this president is.

"He-professed-no-alarm-about-bad-news-from-Iraq,
saying-that-recent-trends (such-as-a-spike-in-killings)
were-just-a-'nanosecond'-in-historical-terms."

Wow. Just "wow."

the "Bronze Comma" is superceding the Bronze Star, the "Silver Comma" supercedes the Silver Star and so on. These decorations will be awarded during the Iraq "comma" as the conflict has come to be known, for conspicuous acts of placeholding and timepassing. It will be customary for all KIAs to receive one such award posthumously...

of Iraq and 30,ooo Americans eliminated or maimed (that we know of now before the immune and mental causalty numbers are known).

Reagan had his macho 'war president' moment in Panama and Grenada, George the Senior had his Iraq War 1. Clinton seemed to have to have his control war in Africa and his rescue war in Eastern Europe (probably would have preferred a legacy of no war).

If we could only get Junior out of there NOW.

The United States does not have to be about war, weapons, profits from war, macho crap. Macho killing. Earth resource ownership and killing.

Let's face it - earth resource killing and imperialist superiority is a death notice to all of us.

Maybe the Mayans did have special knowledge about our earth - as it looks six years out from this date/year.

I was discussing the deplorable fact that there was debate
about torture actually happening in our country and the
possible consequenses of all the despicable actions of this

Just a comma, right? Just a comma!

Their lives meant nothing even then to him. These many more thousand lives long since mean nothing to him now. Anyone who recalls watching him shucking and jiving for the press long ago (hunting under his desk and behind his file cabinet in his Oval Office for WMD and yukking it up in the midst and face of the fresh daily memories of the thousands dead in Iraq, hamming and performing at the expense and unfathomable pain of all those grieving American and Iraqi survivors of those dead men women and children-- anyone who recalls that spectacle had to know even then this was no aberration in his conduct or character. This was the real character disorder speaking and acting.

Yet he is still there. Too bad no one made that public display an actual campaign ad in 2004. Or did he wait until after Nov 04 to call off the hunt? I've occasionally lost track of the finer recollections of the slimy pattern of everything so calculated in that matter in 04..

"Just a comma" would certainly be another one now. It epitomizes the ugliness and ruthlessness of this entire regime.

Will the gullible 30% get it now? Once we kicked out Saddam, Bush was done with Iraq. Done thinking about it. It is SO 15 minutes ago. He turned the page a long time ago, and he resents the hell out of anybody bringing it up. It's all just so tedious and annoying, and he'd much rather be telling fart jokes and riding his bike than answer questions about this tired old monotonous subject. Ho hum, can't we talk about anything else? You see how pissy he was to David Gregory and Matt Lauer?
