Sister of Bush tells some home truths
The Sunday Times September 24, 2006

WHEN there are two presidents in the family and they are both called George, it is hard to know how to address them. For Doro Bush Koch, the daughter of George H and sister of George W, it is simple: one is called dad and the other Mr President.

“I’d feel funny calling the president George,” Koch smiles. “There is only one president and he is it. My dad taught us to treat the office with respect. I’ll go back to George when he’s not in office. Until then it’s Mr President, with affection.”

<snip>

George W once joked, “I turned my mother’s hair white”, but according to Koch her father never lost confidence in his son, even in his drinking years. “He wasn’t a fall down drunk. He made a decision in his life not to drink any more,” Koch said.

George W’s future wife Laura helped to straighten him out. Marvin, another brother, described her appearance as “Audrey Hepburn arriving at Animal House”. The family gets together at Camp David where there is little talk about politics and “a lot of laughter”.

5. Her father is no longer entitled to be called President Bush.
Former presidents do not retain the title. The protocol is that they revert to the highest title they have held other than pres/vice pres. I believe for the living former president the addresses would be Ambassador or Congressman Bush, Governors Clinton and Carter, and Congressman Ford.

9. So, he wasn't a "fall down drunk", eh?
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 06:54 PM by Steven_S
He wasn't a "can't remember what I did last night" drunk either, I suppose.

He wasn't a "pass out in a pool of your own vomit drunk" either, I bet.

He wasn't "piss the damned bed again" drunk" to be sure.

No, he was just a regular guy that made a decision not to drink anymore.

Sure, right.

11. Money, money, money: publication next month of My Father, My President
Would you trust the judgment or ability to distinguish fact from fiction of a woman who dated DAVID DRIER for WAAAAAAAAAY too long?

While Mom Babs fretted that he "never made a move on her...."

These folks aren't the sharpest tools in the toolshed...this is one of those "planted" non-article articles (read: free advertising) whose sole purpose is to ANNOUNCE that a lousy book is coming out.

Will she make more dough than Mary Cheney, with her million dollars of advertising (paid AND free), grand book tour, and ultimately, book sales that were less than ten thousand?

I'll bet there's no chapter on Jennifer Fitzgerald in that little love note!

13. She's crazy.
It's her brother. If my brother was the president (even though Bush is legitimate), I would continue to call him by his first name.

21. Jeb thinks Poppy is being used by Clinton
(snip)

When he was in the White House, Bush Sr used to wonder, “What would dad do?” — a reference to Prescott Bush, who was senator for Connecticut.

Koch doubted that George W did the same. “I don’t know,” she said, pausing for thought. “He should.” Any advice her father gives her brother is limited to personnel, not politics, she added.

(snip)

Jeb Bush, governor of Florida and brother to Koch and George W, remains suspicious of the relationship (with Clinton). “To be candid, my brother Jeb maintains dad is being used,” Koch reveals in her book. Koch, too, was “a little sceptical at first” but has warmed to the double act. She has been charmed by the tenderness and respect that Clinton has shown her father, now 82.
