Those LYING SOBS! "Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terror Threat"
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 05:58 PM by originalpckelly
"I know some have suggested that by liberating Iraq from Saddam Hussein, we simply stirred up a hornet's nest. They overlook a fundamental fact: We were not in Iraq on September 11th, 2001, and the terrorists hit us anyway. As President Bush has said, the hatred of the radicals existed before Iraq was an issue, and it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse." --Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney, August 28, 2006, Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/08/20060828-4.html

"WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 — A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The classified National Intelligence Estimate attributes a more direct role to the Iraq war in fueling radicalism than that presented either in recent White House documents or in a report released Wednesday by the House Intelligence Committee, according to several officials in Washington involved in preparing the assessment or who have read the final document.

The intelligence estimate, completed in April, is the first formal appraisal of global terrorism by United States intelligence agencies since the Iraq war began, and represents a consensus view of the 16 disparate spy services inside government. Titled “Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the United States,’’ it asserts that Islamic radicalism, rather than being in retreat, has metastasized and spread across the globe.

***SNIP***

The report “says that the Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem worse,” said one American intelligence official."

I want to point this out, Cheney KNEW he was lying on August 28 of this year because the report was drafted in APRIL! This is a direct and bald-faced lie, and everyone needs to point it out!

2. This is how they deal with bad news
they get out in front of it and lie their asses off. They refute it before it even hits the newspapers. It's a great trick.

here we have an opportunity to nail the bastards on their lies, and we don't? This story should be up on the front page of DU!

and I thought this would also be #1. There are not enough weapons or munitions in the world to stop this the way we are doing it. Would YOU love a country that destroyed YOUR country, destroyed your ancient artifacts and killed your friends and family?

17. "hatred ... it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse."
He is wrong. Iraq will always be the defining excuse to justify terrorism against America, because the U.S. has shown itself to be an unrestrained power, defiant of the rule of law, defiant of the opinion of the world. This hatred will never die, because people like Cheney will always exist in our government to make sure it doesn't die.

Cheney would be a nothing if it weren't for the Iraq War. It has fueled his power immensely.

As for Cheney lying, eh. He's just voicing his opinion. Now, his opinion is a lie, to be sure, but the Repubs do love to dance around such mere technicalities.

with us during 911--especially a lot of Middle Eastern people that I saw on television; it was heartbreaking to see all of that. However, now we are faced with the prospects of a hatred emerging from the Middle Eastern community which shall exist for decades because of Iraq! Thanks, Dick! Thanks, Shrub!:wtf: :banghead:

20. This is huge--the stake through these vampire pigs' hearts
Fred Barnes just said on FoxNews Sunday that the number of terrorists would "probably" be growing anyway.

That's the best they can do? Terrorism would be getting worse without Iraq?

Vampire pigs beware

23. One More Reality Check For GWB
The problem, as I view it, is that virtually all the actions of this President in the region are fomenting instability and hostility that may soon reach a point of no return. Even worse, the efforts of this administration are failing to create a wedge between extremist leaders and their populations. On the contrary, the language used by this administration, coupled with the perception that the U.S. is engaged in unwarranted and ideological aggression, has served to push otherwise moderate populations into alignment with radical governments and extremist organizations.

As I attempt to grasp the magnitude of allowing this President unfettered authority between now and the end of his second term, I can't help but wonder what it would take to dissuade a man with his level of certainty and conviction from undertaking the actions that will facilitate the ideations he seems convinced have been presented to him through a mix of fate and faith.

History may well record this chapter as a period of unparalleled extremism. Worse yet, the United States may well be viewed as the primary force in facilitating that eventuality. George Bush, when asked about his legacy, seems content to respond that while he can't predict the future he believes his actions will prove to be pivotal. He may well be correct but, in this instance, I would suggest he recall the expression, "Be careful what you wish for".

24. Why do you hate America?
Cheney only lies when absolutely necessary, like, everytime he opens his mouth. I'm sure he was only protecting Amerika and now we're emboldening the terrorists by telling them they're in Iraq, which they probably weren't even aware of.

Freedom is on the march, we're turning the corner in Iraq, it's just that it's a really LONG corner. Damn librul media never reports the good news....

27. So? That's the vee-pee's plan: the more hatred the PNAC crack-
pots manage to create every day, the more billions the Military Industrial Complex (Helliburton-like) and BigOil's CEOs make. In other words, Darth and Herr (and their BFEE puppet) can continue to lie through their teeth each time they open their mouth without any fear of ever being held accountable for any thing they willfully f**k up. It's their real agenda: the he*l with the American people, they R still laughing all the way to the bank (offshore).

Very interesting to see how different newspapers front pages cover this major story or not. Scroll down far enough after the editorial to see all the front pages. Pretty cool.

36. OK this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
My new blog has been a hodgepodge of sorts. Tonight I came out and did it: called for the resignation/impeachment of Bush,Cheney,Rumsfeld,Gonzales...

http://screechingrats.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/an-open-letter-to-george-w-bush-and-the-people-of-the-united-states/

I close with a quote from Madison:
“Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes…known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. . . No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

I had been trying to be "abstract" and not mention them by name, concentrating on their pets, the Talibangelists, AEI and Heritage, but finally had to type the loathsome names. I washed my fingers well following.

Now, am I brave enough to put this in the mail tomorrow morning?
