Has Chirac outed Rove's Surprise on death of Bin-Laden
http;//www.iht.com/articles/2006/09/23/frontpage/23binladen.php

International Herald Tribune

President Jacques Chirac said Saturday the information contained in a leaked intelligence document raising the possibility that Osama bin-Lanen may have died of typhoid in Pakistan last month is no way whatsoever confirmed.

Chirac said he was a bit surprised at the leak and has asked Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie to probe how a document from a French foreign intelligence service was published in the French press.

The regional newspaper Est Republican on Saturday printed what it described as a copy of a Confidential from the DGSE intelligence service citing an uncorroborated report from Saudi secret service that the leader of the alQaida terror network had died.

But of course Washington doubts the report

2. If the White House doesn't doubt the report, they don't have bin Laden
to use later in October.

4. that was my first reaction
even if it's theoretically possible that a regional newspaper ("The Eastern Republican") has contacts within the DGSE, it's more probable that it's an organized leak. Nobody contests the authenticity of the document, only that the Saudi source might be wrong. Why then publish this ? a reason would be to defuse an "October surprise".

If this is confirmed, Democrats should spin it as a miserable failure for the Bush regime : because it's a fact that OBL's NATURAL death doesn't vindicates the victims of 9/11. If OBL had been killed in a fight or even better captured and tried, this could be considered as a victory for justice. Not now.

7. Ya know, I don't think Bin Long-gone or his many videotapes
(of dubious authenticity) over the years, including the famous pre-election 2004 one, ever changed more than a dozen votes anywhere. At most, they provided handy rationales for improbable election results that would better have been explained by fraud. Nobody changed their vote because of Bin Laddie, but everyone was willing to think that other people would do so, and bought that as a causal explaqnation for Bushco's "victories."
