U.S. Fatalities In War Exceed Those From Sept. 11 - (AP\MSNBC)

<snip>

WASHINGTON - Now the death toll is 9/11 times two.

U.S. military deaths from Iraq and Afghanistan now surpass those of the most devastating terrorist attack in America’s history, the trigger for what came next.

The latest milestone for a country at war came Friday without commemoration. It came without the precision of knowing who was the 2,974th to die in conflict. The terrorist attacks killed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

An Associated Press count of the U.S. death toll in Iraq rose to 2,696. Combined with 278 U.S. deaths in and around Afghanistan, the 9/11 toll was reached, then topped, the same day. The Pentagon reported Friday the latest death from Iraq, an as-yet unidentified soldier killed a day earlier after his vehicle was hit by a roadside bombing in eastern Baghdad.

Not for the first time, war that was started to answer death has resulted in at least as much death for the country that was first attacked, quite apart from the higher numbers of enemy and civilians killed, too.

3. This makes no sense at all. As a matter of fact it is plain stupid
to sacrifice one for one much less more than one for one.

5. "War that was started to answer death..."
The Iraq war was not started in response to the deaths on 9/11. This article propagates the myth that the Iraq War and 9/11 are somehow connected.

6. Three more soldiers died today
Further, according to MSNBC, a video showing the torture of those two soldiers (whose platoon was involved in the rape of that 14 year old Iraqi girl) has been shown on some AlJazeera station. The timing is so good that it will no doubt whip up support for the torture bill.

7. Put their names on a wall for the politicians to use for the next war.
They'll line up with their constipated faces on, shedding crocodile tears, and talking the "ultimate sacrifice" crappola that the poor sods made for nothing.

Cannon-fodder and wormfood sacrificed on the throne ambition and greed.

9. A linear graph mean ZERO progress
Wow. Just look at that graph. It's fucking LINEAR. Despite any and all improvements that have been made, the enemy has easily adjusted to them. You can throw the "progress is being made" theory right out the window by having a single look at that graph. Casualties continue to rise at a steady rate with no slowdown in sight.

750 deaths per year. If the war goes on for another 3 years, the number will be at 5250.

15. "The war will pay for itself."
What a sad benchmark. There's still a great nation in America somewhere, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to find, except here.

there is no real connection between the war and 9/11, this might be a fact.
