This is the single most important issue in American politics. The 800-lb gorilla. The Big One. The ne plus ultra. The be-all-and-end-all. The Alpha and Omega.

Get with the program, CatWoman. Please. The input of all Democrats is urgently needed so that we can formulate a strategy to deal with the Chavez speech. With everyone on side, we can resolve this and still have a week or two left over to deal with Iraq, election theft, the economy, the environment, education, immigration and so forth.

But one thing at a time, and we might as well start with the biggest issue out there.

Seriously, whenever these things spring up it isn't "real" DU'ers who flood the boards with posts about it. It is drive-by posters trying to frame the debate, and insist on posting thread after thread with controversial titles. I am one of Chavez defenders here but my real attitude towards this latest hullabaloo is that it is pretty much a tempest in a teapot. His comments were perhaps a tad over the top but, all things considered, he's entitled to be, at least where Bush is the topic. And that's it, let's move on.

in love with Chavez myself. Bush is the anti-Christ, the devil in disguise, but he is too narcissistic and hopped up on drugs to know it. Although occasionally his tics tell me he is barely cognizant that he is a living zombie.

As I said before, I'm sure to the point of boredom, Chavez is not the problem Bush is. Whatever Chavez does or doesn't say has nothing to do with the torture bill just passed and voted for by some democratic politicians. Chavez has nothing to do with the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. Chavez has nothing to do with Gitmo or secret rendition. I'm disgusted with Dem's because they fall for it every time. I thought that the Democratic Party thought it was OK to criticize the CIC during wartime. Now the Democratic Party itself is narrowing the definition. Only US citizens can criticize the president. This enforces the Bush view that international and world opinion doesn't count. Chavez doesn't need us to defend to criticize him. That is typical american hubris. It speaks to the idea the "of course you can say what you want to say, but only if we approve or disapprove". I personally, and I did read the entire, speech, think Chavez was correct. Does this mean if he is caught in wrong doing I will defend him no matter what? No. What it means I don't think america is always right or wrong. Having lived overseas (not as a tourist) I gained a more clear view of america. I have to say, most americans when it comes to international affairs, are idiots. People talk about knee jerk defense of Chavez but only a few point out the Dem's knee jerk defense of Bush. How odd. Hmmm....
