Since When Do 3 Republican Senators And The president Get To Make Law?
No matter that the issue is the most important of our time, since when is agreement between the whitehouse and 3 Senators of his own party enough to insure the passage of a law?

For Christ's sake, surely there are ethical Republicans in the House and Senate that won't stand for torture and amnisty for torturers.

If not here we are on the threshold of a theocratic monarchy.

1. That's what I hope, but I fear the worst
If the big Repub guns get in lockstep, the rest of the R's usually set their consciences aside and fall in behind, and the Dems are too afraid of being portrayed as traitors that they don't unit behind a filibuster. But with only one week before adjournment, and election prospects looking good, perhaps a filibuster can be sustained.

3. No, they were all rubberstamps, but for 3 of them. THAT IS THE PROBLEM
If no one has noticed, government of, by and for one party is a DISASTER!!!

Checks and Balances ARE a GOOD THING. Oversight is a good thing!

You can't have checks and balance without oversight and you can't have oversight if everyone belongs to a single ideology simply because no single party EVER looks in the friggin mirror.

And if you don't have a hope of preventing cloture there is no mechanism for allowing the opposition a voice let alone a weapon to protect against excesses of the majority.

5. I am getting so lost and confused on this.
the other day there was a thread here that gave assurances that this kind of thing can't happen without approvals - all the way up to the SCOTUS and with the democrats involved on voting.

and that the US has no authority or power to change the Geneva Convention rulings.

and now it sounds like it's all a done deal?

9. Since we abandoned the idea of a representative democracy
based on our constitution. The reality is, we aren't free unless the supreme court can protect us all.

11. "Surely there are ethical Republicans"... HA!
If they had any eithics, they would not still call themselves "Republicans".

12. Since Bush the retard president
declared he was appointed by God.
Seriously, I`m very worried that the Republicans will control everything for the next 50 years.
The Democrats are powerless and now if the voters have to show an ID to vote is going to help Republicans hold on to power even more because many of the poor who votes for democrats wont have an ID. This ID bill will pass because Republicans know this will only help them.
