The next time someone claims we have a strong econ, show them this:
US businesses ranked by employee size:

TOP SIX EMPLOYERS
1. Manpower, Inc--2,027,100
2. Wal-Mart--1,700,000
3. Printing and Communications Media, Inc.--757,149
4. Kelly Services, Inc.--708,400
5. Labor Ready, Inc.--602,900
6. McDonald's Corp.--438,000

Now, I'm not an economist but it appears of the top six employers in the US, three specialize in temporary or part-time help and two in low-wage, low-skill jobs (I don't know about No. 3), making me wonder if the economy is really doing as well as the Bushistas and their minions in the Corporate Media want us to believe.

Source: Dun & Bradstreet Business Rankings, 2006.

Incidently, the total for Manpower, Wal-Mart, Kelly Services, Labor Ready, and McDonald's is 5,476,400.

7. 1,4,& 5 are bottom-scraping cheap-ass low-pay temp jobs.
How do I know? I ran a hig-paying high-margin top line staffing co for years.

Those 3 suck the bottom.

#3 includes PAPERBOYS in their stats, btw.

16. But are the IT workers American or H-1b?
Part of the reason for the stagnant salaries is the glut of employees competing for those jobs. And the H-1b people keep coming in as more and more visas are issued to them every year.

9. It would be interesting to count up all the local, state & federal
government employees. Add them to this figure & see what's left over.

15. It depends on where you're at on the economic ladder
For the rich, it *IS* a booming economy. For the first time ever, the Forbes 400 consist ONLY of billionaires.

With favorable tax policies, the rich haven't had it so good since the early 1950s -- and if they are allowed to continue, we'll return to the "good old days" of the turn of the century when the robber barons ruled the land.
