Boston pol takes aim at Citgo sign at Fenway Park after 'devil' comment
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2006/09/22/boston_pol_takes_aim_at_citgo_sign_after_devil_comment/

A city councilor wants to take down the famed Citgo sign in Kenmore Square in response to controversial remarks by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, who called President Bush "the devil."

The Citgo sign has been a Boston landmark for decades, in part because it is so prominently visible over the left-field wall at Fenway Park.

But after Chavez called President Bush "the devil" during a speech Wednesday at the United Nations, Councilor Jerry McDermott said the sign has to go. Citgo is subsidiary of Venezuela's state oil company. McDermott wants replace the sign with an American flag.

"Given the hatred of the United States displayed by dictator Hugo Chavez, it would be more fitting to see an American flag when you drive through Kenmore Square," McDermott told The Boston Herald. "I think people would soon forget the Citgo sign."

Citgo paid $1 million to refurbish the sign last year, said company spokesman David McCollum, who downplayed McDermott's proposed nonbinding resolution. "We leave the politics to the politicians," he said.

2. And of course mcdermott
bush has absolutely nothing to do with the "hatred of the United States" displayed by so many. There must be a klan klavern in Boston which must be played to.

8. Unfortunately, all you see around is American flags to the
point they seem superfluous. They also remind me of what we've lost. Authoritarian countries like the way we are going always have nationalistic displays everywhere you look. For me, the flag has been stained by the torture and the shredding of our constitution.

9. What a jackass.
Chavez doesn't hate the US, or its people - his beef is with the chimp. This reminds me of when the pukes banned "French" from the Capitol cafeteria. :eyes: So childish.

16. Relevant extract from the speech
The president then -- and this he said himself, he said: "I have come to speak directly to the populations in the Middle East, to tell them that my country wants peace."

That's true. If we walk in the streets of the Bronx, if we walk around New York, Washington, San Diego, in any city, San Antonio, San Francisco, and we ask individuals, the citizens of the United States, what does this country want? Does it want peace? They'll say yes.

But the government doesn't want peace. The government of the United States doesn't want peace. It wants to exploit its system of exploitation, of pillage, of hegemony through war.-snip-

18. This guy needs to take a trip to Wiscasset, Maine
The Citgo station there has a sign up that says "Thank you troops for protecting our freedom (sic)" for the last few months. It really drives me nuts every time I drive past it. I think they probably meant "profits" instead of "freedom."

I haven't filled up my car with anything other than Citgo for over 2 years now. I think it's time for a Citgo cap now. I'm hoping for comments and remarks especially from lackey repukes. The air is just right for smacking someone.
