The media spun the torture debate as Republicans saving "face"
Unbelievable. Yes, the political future of a few overfed white men is what's important in the world. Whether innocent humans or even guilty ones are tortured and that's what America stands for was not. And this was CNN-but CNN international. The reporter was a woman-somebody Koppel-so I assume she's related to Ted Koppel.

Instead of giving us the reality, not words, not political futures. Instead of the guts of the bill, which means, someone right now can continue to be tortured-in your name, America. The "detainee" treatment act. As if we need an act to tell us how to treat people. Bush doesn't understand the Geneva conventions-so we are going to let him decide how to interpret them. We have made a president a King.

But what's important is the maverick Republicans took a stand-though nothing changed-and are now back in the president's corner. Not the American's corner, not the moral corner, but Bush's corner. Because when you are king, all that matters is the king.

Over on Fox, I actually caught the tail end of our good fiend of liberty, Robert Novak commenting. Ahhhh..it's all over. Great news! Next week they will have something better to talk about. Oh water boarding? Yeah, it's in there but that's not what's important. What's important is saving the face of these Republicans and most importantly, their king, George W. Bush. This was essentially what he said. Oh and yes, they mentioned water boarding.

Which is in fact, torture. They seem to relish it. I knew when planes hit the WTC on 9/11 that it would be bad, but I never thought it would be this bad.

And I wonder as an American, how I can save face? Because I am ashamed of my leaders, my media and everyone that treats this as just a political game.
