The Republicans Want Torture?? BOYCOTT - Hit them where it hurts.
Let's be honest. No one gives a damn if 5 million of us take to the streets. No one cares if we pull our hair out, threathen to leave the country, carry coffins, and mourn the loss of habeas corpus. There is one thing this Republican government, many of our Democratic representatives and the corporations that run them all understand: MONEY.

We must pool all of our resources together, every single progressive in this country, and boycott, starting with one company that the republicans hold dearest to their heart:

EXXON/MOBIL

This boycott will show the power we have, that we can speak by withholding our dollars from this administration's best friends. We will no longer give our money to those in bed with the people who are trashing our Constitution. We will speak of our displeasure at their sneaky oil meetings, their raping consumers for extra bucks, and going to war for oil, a war that took us to this point where we are institutionalizing torture. We will show our resolve.

How can this be accomplished??? A boycott of Exxon/Mobil gets front-paged or recommended. We email every single person on our lists that there is now, today, an official Democratic boycott of Exxon. I cannot think of one Democrat I know who would not do this willingly. We say, "No More. Do NOT go to Exxon/Mobil." Our leaders are trashing the Constitution, approving torture, and all they understand is money. So let's hit their best friends: Exxon Mobil.

Now, if every single progressive blog got on this - and every single reader of every single progressive blog emailed every single person they knew - and every person they emailed sent an email out, and progressive news shows picked it up, and shows like Fox and CNN reported on it in disgust ("radical left wing extremist terror-supporting bloggers pathetically trying to organize a boycott of Exxon/Mobil") giving our boycott even more exposure, then the word of the boycott would get out. With all of the talent on the left side of the blogosphere, I am sure someone brilliant and talented could come up with flyers we could print off and hang around our towns and cities. There are lots and lots of ways to make this happen.

And if even 1/5 of Exxon/Mobil's customers stopped coming, it would be a disaster for them. (And I don't want to hear about all of the innocent Exxon/Mobil employees/owners this will hurt. They knew what they were dealing with all of these years.) And the beauty of starting with an oil company is that even if every single right winger in this nation wants to help Exxon/Mobil by buying more gas, there is only so much gas they can buy/use or store. There is no way they can make it up. If we were boycotting WalMart, the wingers would just buy more during the boycott, but we should not rule out expanding the boycott to the worst republican companies, adding them to the list.

Times have changed. We have power. We don't have to wait for our namby-pamby Democratic leaders to take the lead here, as they obviously are paralyzed. The internet can get the word out like nothing else. I have already heard the naysayers. I don't believe them. There is NO reason we cannot successfully organize a boycott of one of the most irresponsible and greedy companies on the planet.

Let's do it. Let's show the republicans, the tyrants, and the rest of the world what we can do if you mess with our Constitution. If you mess with our good name. We can change the world, just by withholding our dollars.

2. Any socially-responsible person wouldn't be found near E/M anyway
for a lot of other reasons. Another good reason to cross them off your list.

3. I haven't bought a drop of Exxon/Mobil gas since they merged...
and rescinded the GLBT non-discrimination policies that were put in place at Mobil.

Insignificant? Perhaps, but I sure feel good about it.

5. please be so kind
as to explain how this will hurt ExxonMobil? most of the company's profit (almost all of it, actually) comes from everything except the retail price of gasoline. the money is in wholesaling, drilling, shipping and refining, not in selling retail. And, of course, ExxonMobil will have no trouble selling that gasoline to every other retailer in the country, to brand as Chevron, for instance. it's all the same stuff.

You know who gets hurt in your plan? the small business owners who operate ExxonMobil franchises. Not ExxonMobil.

6. OK, naysayer, do you have Exxon/Mobil stock??
And the small business owners who own E/M may have to pay a price for selling gasoline for such an immoral company. They could have changed to another company many times E/M proved they were immoral.

Thanks for contributing!!

7. if you want to hurt ExxonMobil
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 03:05 PM by northzax
don't buy ANY gasoline. buying it from another provider is meaningless.

To give you an example. Say you want to boycott Sony. So you promise to never buy another Sony product from Wal-Mart, you will only buy from Target. Does that actually hurt Sony? or just Wal-Mart (which wouldn't be a bad thing, really)

Gasoline, like oil, is basically a commodity. there is no difference between the gasoline sold by ExxonMobil stations and the gasoline sold by ChevronTexaco stations. it is the exact same stuff, bought from the same wholesaler, delivered in the same pipeline when the ExxonMobil truck pulls up to the wholesaler, the wholesaler mixes in the appropriate additives and off they go.

ExxonMobil makes money by extracting, shipping, refining and wholesaling gasoline. they don't really care if you buy their gasoline from Chevron stations or Mobil stations. it's all the same stuff.

sorry, that's the reality of the situation.

oh, and no, I have no interest in ExxonMobil financially (well, I suppose my 401K might have some in a mutual fund, but not enough to make a difference to me)

8. I haven't stopped at an E/M in years, even to use the bathroom, but
it hasn't made a difference. Their profits are still obscene. :-(
