Research Help - Muslims Detained Post-9/11?

Hey gang,

I had a debate this afternoon with a friend, during which my friend asserted that every single Muslim detained after 9/11 was found guilty of visa/immigration violations, and thus the administration didn't break any laws in detaining them.

Was this the case? I don't recall this being true at all, but if in fact I'm wrong I'd like to know. I don't like working off of inaccurate information.

If anyone does have evidence that the assertion is incorrect, could you please share it with us so that I can share it with her? Names and dates are especially helpful in this case (and links to reputable sources, of course).

I think the incarceration of hundreds (thousands?) of Arabs/Muslims after 9/11 was reprehensible, and it worries me - if indeed there were many guilty of no other crime than being Arab and/or Muslim - that good liberal-minded people might be unwittingly excusing an action usually thought of as occurring under dictatorships.

1. NO- There was a man of Muslim background rounded up

right after 9/11- He was being held WITHOUT CHARGE somewhere in NY? I believe- and he DIED in custody of get this.... tooth decay. I'm not shitting you. I remember being outraged by this,- the poor man hadn't done anything, been CHARGED with anything (other than being born to the wrong ethnic group) and we are supposed to believe it was his TEETH that killed him.

I was going to post this as a question, to see if anyone had any info on the specifics- I've got one place I can look that may help.

MANY people were detained right after 9/11- for no good reason.- Also remember the backlash against Arab-Americans, and the violence and murders that occurred? There were also solidarity actions that we women participated in, by wearing Hajib's to support our Muslim sisters.
