I think we just got Rove's 'October Surprise...'
...a few days early.

Warner, McCain and Graham were playing us.

The 'compromise' gives Bush all he wanted.

It. Was. A. Setup.

We got played, folks.

4. That was it?
Doesn't seem like a whole lot to me for an "October Surprise."

9. It changed the debate completely.
Now the narrative goes from 'maverick Republicans oppose President' to 'Dems in disarray.'

Bush now has his electoral cudgel back. Either Dems vote for this piece of crap, or they get hammered for being 'soft on terrorism.'

Two days ago, those commercials could not have been run. Today, I'll bet they're storyboarding 'soft on terrorism' ads for every congressional race.

This changes everything. And it ain't good.

11. Yes, that was my first reaction
Even without knowing the details in the "legislation", I think it is a purely political move.

18. you are 100% correct as!
It still amazes me that so many on this board think that letting the repukes duke it out and control the message is a fucking "strategy". :eyes:

2. Rove will throw everything he has at us.
Chances are it won't work because 60% of the country has turned against Bush and the GOP at large.
Still we must remain vigilant. Rove could have some success. There are still 46 days left.

3. Sure did. Chavez looks better and better.
I would trust him before any Repug.

These Satans love war and torture and killing.

5. You may be on to something there.
Rachel Maddow on AAR has been talking, for at least a week, about how this was a win win for MCCain.

6. Ya think?
:eyes:

Anyone who didn't see this as a ridiculous ploy to stop the "Rubberstamp Congress" line is an imbecile, pure and simple. McCain, Warner, Graham are lockstep fascists. To think that they would go against the party is naive.

7. It is a sad day when a tortured compromises and agrees to
torture. Expect in the future American "dissenters" becoming plucked from the rallies and tortured. Its coming.

While leading Democrats were getting secondary face time to denounce Chavez, Republicans including Bush-- were being put front and center as working hard on terrorism, --albeit immoral and unlawful--with Democrats no where to be seen.

15. McCain worked it.
People aren't going to pay attention to the details, the mainstream media doesn't give them any.

All they hear is that McCain stood up to the White House and made them change things, because
McCain is a principled man.

Nobody's going to realize that barely anything actually changed.

Score another point for McCain.

17. Isn't all of politics nothing more then a show
these days? Basically everyone gets screwed for the almighty dollar, it doesn't seem to matter what political shroud they put on. I think I'm becoming an angry cynic these days
