Al Franken says Chavez was wrong.
It was on Tucker's show, I think. He has to say that and it doesn't matter if Chavez is right or not.

6. He has to say that?
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 08:36 PM by acmejack
I guess I don't understand, because he wants to be a Senator so badly that nothing else matters? He can't take the high road like Tom Harkin and admit that perhaps that while poorly stated, maybe, just maybe, Chavez and the rest of the World have a valid point about the arrogant churl and his gang that are running this place into the ground? Or nobody is supposed to notice or even if they do, it is strictly verboten to speak of it?

8. I think a lot of the Democrats are more concerned about what
their political future will be more than anything else. Excuse me, but I thought they were suppose to represent OUR interest.

10. I think I agree with CLinton on this...
and I guess you could say that he has to say what he said too; but I don't think anythng positive is accomplished by name calling in the UN. It is the same as Bush deciding not to meet with the Iranian president - it is not productive. Perhaps Chavez has a point about this administration and the recent events in South America, but this is not the way.

16. Chavez slapped us by slapping Bush.
Look, we all know he was right, but we can't have people slapping us at will. If he had spoke rather than slapped, there wouldn't be any backlash and the Democrats could debate it, maybe even agree. But he slapped us.

And Democrats can't look soft. Like it or not, the "war on terror" does matter and if it looks like the Democrats will be turning the other cheek all the time, we lose in November. Simple as that.

In a few days this will be history and we'll be back to the election.

17. Bush has been bitch slapping us all since he
hit his trifecta,9/11, or doesn't that count? Chavez made it clear to me that his beef is with Bush not the N.American people. You say the Dems can't look 'soft'. What is that supposed to mean? Is Venezuela our enemy now? So we have to be 'hard' on it's leader for heartily voicing his opinion of Bush? The same sort of opinion many on this forum have voiced about Bush and his Buddies. Some of us still believe in freedom of speech and Chavez let us know what is on his mind so what's to condemn? Take it or leave it, it's one man's opinion.
The Dems are soft for not taking the lead in condemning Bushco for their lies, warmingering, underhandedly trying to change the Constitution and not-so-subtley stomping on our 'freedoms'.

Will the moderates agree? We can't win without them and OUR politicians know that.

30. The day support for union-busting, vote-stealing demogogue like Chavez is
the litmus test for being a good Democrat is the day this life long yellow dog Democrat becomes an Independent. That would be exactly one day after hell freezes over on the 30th of February.
