Poll question: What will Bush do if the Dems take Congress?
We're a little over a month out from the most important election of the last 100 years.

In this little exercise, we're going to assume that the Democrats win control of both chambers by respectable margins. What will Bush do then?

For extra credit, how long will it take the Dems to impeach the sumbitch?

1. Veto every single thing that crosses his desk
including appropriations bills and budgets, on the theory that if Democrats came up with it, it must be bad. He doesn't even have to have his staff read any of it. He believes. Facts won't penetrate.

My guess is that they'll be faced with the choice between shutting the government down---including the Pentagon---or removing Stupid.

32. He'll get that, anyway
sooner or later, so it's no loss.

We are not dealing with a sensible human being, we are dealing with a zealot. Count on him to destroy the country before he signs a bill from a Democratic Congress.

4. He Will Run Away to Another Country
because his @$$ is gonna get impeached! He will flee to one of his "Coalition of the Willing" buddy countries of his and hide in that leader's estate. I'm picturing him on Lapdog Tony's English countryside estate idling his time away murdering animals.

29. He'd be better off hiding on Bandar Bush's estate
Tony Blair is preparing to step down in the next year or so. I read it in the papers, so I have no idea how accurate it is, but we'll take it at face value. By the time we need to worry about retrieving George Bush, Tony Blair won't be prime minister of Great Britain.

Now...let's assume that Bush was stupid enough to flee to England and try to hide on Blair's land. Britain has an extradition treaty with the United States, they've got a good military (or at least they did before Bush convinced Tony Blair to send it to Iraq and get the shit shot out of it), said military is smaller than it used to be thanks to Bush's lies, and there is SOMETHING a new UK leader would want from the United States. Given all these things, it it very feasible that if the United States called the new British prime minister, informed him that the fugitive former leader of the free world has holed himself up on Tony Blair's ranch, and asked for his return, within three days a German Air Force C-160 Transall would appear at Andrews Air Force Base with George Bush ratchet-strapped to the floor. (Trust me on one thing: if this asshole, once removed from power, were to be caught by the British army, the first thing he'd hear would be a variant on "so you're the bugger who's responsible for Corporal Smith's death, are ya?" and the last thing would be "we're sending you back to the US on a luxury jetliner.")

Saudi Arabia's a different story. They have no extradition treaty with the US, they seem to control any US-Saudi relationship, and their only export gives them enough cash that they can find SOMEONE to sell them anything they need. If Bush wanted to hang out at the home of one of the Saudi royals and they decided to keep him, ain't nuthin' anyone could do to change their minds.

23. Without a doubt, it'll be stolen, and...
...it's already begun. Between now and November, all of the window dressing will be trotted out (fudged poll numbers, fake rallies, etc.), gas prices will remain down in areas where the GOP is in danger, an October surprise of some sort will take place, and news anchors will read from teleprompters prepared by Karl Rove. Voter registration will be blocked, votes will be suppressed, and the real numbers will be Diebolded. They will win. We will lose. Lather, rinse, and repeat in 2008. End of the USA. End of story.

The United States! Was that a great country or what?

7. My personal opinion
He'll resign and move to Houston.

He will resign because he "can't move the country forward" with the millstone of the Democratic Congress around his neck. Read into it what you will. And he'll resign quickly, probably before the Congress is seated.

He'll move to Houston, or within 20 miles of it, because the people who owe him the biggest all run oil companies--and Houston is the home of a lot of them. He'll find himself on the board of directors of one of them. He WON'T move back to Crawford because Crawford isn't the kind of place a man who's got the kind of cubic dollars Bush has would voluntarily live. Even though he is stupid. he's not stupid enough to live in such a place...or, more accurately, his corporate benefactors won't go out there when he's not in the seat of power.

They tell me Houston has a police department who is capable of catching criminals, so he may not stay there very long, but that's what he'll do.

Yeah, I'm cynical, but show me ONE reason to think that the Dems will actually turn into some kind of opposition party. I don't see it.

what I think he would do is decide the Election was "stolen", call it no good and declare himself Dictator and promise to hold elections at some point in the future. You think I'm crazy, but -- trust me -- it's a neocon evangelical's wet dream come true.

Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 09:57 PM by oldboy101
Being a mighty War Presydent he is likely to retreat to some undisclosed location and unleash a holocaust upon the world. I am sure that only Cheney and Rummy have managed to restrain him from playing with his toys so far. It's scary to think of those two keeping Shrub from blowing us all to Hell, isn't it?

P.S. Add North Korea to the list.

31. He can ORDER, but that doesn't mean it will be DONE
I never thought there was a good time for a mutiny.

OTOH, I never thought I'd see a president who would order a nuclear strike just for the fuck of it.

If Bush actually called for the football to launch on Iran, Syria or North Korea, I think that either the Air Force or the Secret Service would have him dragged off in irons, and I don't think they'd actually launch.

I read, many years ago in a popular magazine, the actual sequence of events used in a nuclear launch. There's not some big red button on the president's desk that, when pressed, instantly causes the Doomsday Machine to go off. Instead, he orders the release and it goes through the Pentagon chain of command to the two majors who must turn the keys to end the world. Somewhere between the little maniac and the two majors, SOMEONE will stop this shit.

At least we hope, but there's no guarantee that Bush wouldn't have already installed death-wish Christians in all the necessary billets.

27. He'a a Uniter, not a Divider.
Which means he has no clue how to deal with opposition unless he can beat them down.

I would love to see what a Unitary Executive can do if Congress clips his wings. Technically, he can still do a lot of damage, which is why we need to threaten him with possible impeachment - whether we actually impeach him or not

Personally, impeachment is not enough - I want him standing before the Hague. But at this point, I would be happy if someone just threatened him enough to reign his crazy ass in a little.

Would someone PLEASE give him a blowjob so we can impeach him?
