Great strategy: Go invisible on the torture issue, let McCain take the lead, end up with a big pile of horeshit that the media will congratulate the Republicans for.

What a fucking joke.

4. This is why I have a neutral expectation if / when the Dems take Congress
I know, they're in the minority now, as some will remind me, but they have mouths and can speak.

5. Exactly, it was so obvious, McCain, not afraid to take on Bush,
brings Bush who is not running for reelection down and gets a compromise on the torture bill, all we heard about for several days. Every time, they want to get something out to the public or take something out of the press, it works for them.

It seems to me all the dems are doing is hoping that we all just are pissed enough at Bush and the republicans to vote for the dems. They are doing nothing. Even President Clinton on stage with Laura and talking about what a good guy the President is.

For the life of me, I don't remember a party that had so much ammunition and the dems don't seem to be using any of it.

7. Why Worry! The Brave Congressional Democrats Are Here!
They'll use every tool at their disposal to ensure that Americans retain their basic civil liberties, and that America will live up to its obligations of providing basic human rights to combatants.

(mmmm... Golden Triangle... so shiny...)

8. whilst bush and his nutters in the fuhrer bonker...
the rest of the republican party ahs been learning from clintonism,
they'are ready to steal every democratic idea and walk a 'third-plus' way
conservatism. Then the pukes come off sounding progressive cuz they
steal the rhetoric of intelligent populism, whilst the dems run scared
from the progressive caucus.

10. Yep, if Congressional Dems were any more supine...
...they'd have to install Sleepnumber beds on the Senate floor.

Talk about a crisis of confidence. It seems that the Dems believe every negative thing the Repugs ever said about them ("Oh why do I hate America so much?", "I hate myself for loving terrorists.", "I'm a bad bad person.") and are just stewing in pools of guilt and self-loathing. They fear that, if they dare to open their mouths and speak their minds, some America-hating, terrorist-loving morsel will slip out for all to see. So they stand dumbly, afraid that if they join the debate, all the big boys and girls on the Republican side will laugh at them. And there's nothing worse than being laughed at. Not even torture.

13. I will support individual Dem candidates but I don't think very much of
the "leadership" of the party such as it is, for exactly the reasons you have so succinctly stated in the original post.

I'm disgusted with the silence. And I DON'T buy the "but we have no voice" responses that will always come down. The Party leaders, in unison, could easily garner much more publicity than they have on this fundamental moral issue, so easy to be RIGHT on.

15. I don't totally disagree with you, but I have heard on several shows
thatthe Dems were in unison against Shrubs proposal, but the REAL TROUBLE for Shrub was his Pub rebels.

Now, you have to admit, it wasmuch better news to have some Pubs agains Shrub than to hear AGAIN that the Dems disagreed with his proposal!

Personally, I'm waiting to hear the DETAILS of the final agreement! Even Duncan Hunter said there still could be trouble with the House vote over the"revealing National Security Info to the accused".

I'm not going to hang the Dems on this one. I don't think we have to fight unnecessary battles.

Just what the shit do they consider a "winning strategy" anyway? The chef tells me the recipe is famous but the boot I'm spooning around in the bowl tells me otherwise.
