Should chavez apologize (something about the pope in all this...)
I mean, millions of americans were offended. Chavez is a well known leader throughout the world, and should be more diplomatic in what he says right?

Should offended americans be out on the street in protest or something?

Oh I know one comment was about a religion (Da popes), and one was about a person. But that person is still a leader that represents several hundred million folks.

Then too, all the bushbots were insulted. Apparently so were some dem leaders.

So a warning to chavez, some people here in the US hate you, you didn't try to build a bridge, you pissed them off, and by logic I have seen at times around these parts if something happens it's your fault because you spoke like you did.

So be a man, apologize, or we might get mad and burn some wood or something :) and of course that would be your fault....

What is it with people in power these days blabbing all the time and making people riot and stuff? Sheesh.

;)

ps - flame away if you must, I know the two things were not the exact same, but apparently it struck a cord with some folks, insulted their belief in something (bush), and yet I don't see a really crazy reaction....makes one wonder. Some people agree with leaders on issues, ala the pope, and some disagree.

On Edit: I seriously doubt millions of Americans were offended based on how Chomsky's books have skyrocketed on Amazon.com. ;)

11. Oh, dear.
That is a prime example of a logical fallacy. Sad to see such a lack of logic.

comment on my posts.

Noting that you can be equally caustic and judgmental of others who make valid and honest points, I don't believe that I'm alone when I wish that you'd just mind your own business instead of IMO useless sniping. Your curt comments have accomplished absolutely nothing save for the making of a snide remark. This is getting to be a habit of YOURS, let's see less of each other? ;)

20. Oh, really?
First of all, I haven't responded to a post of yours in a couple of months. Second, just a few minutes before I wrote this post, I also directed this one to you:

"This is not the time to lose heart
A large part of political shifts is simply the swinging of the pendulum. And it is swinging. In Ohio polling, Brown is not up by as many as 10 points against DeWiner. Bernie Sanders is a shoe in. Sheldon Whitehouse is ahead of Chaffee. Save your disgust and pessimism until after November 7. Personally, I suspect Dems will make major inroads. I'll moan and wail and curse deaf heaven, if they don't, but until, it's over, I'm just gonna continue being hopeful and working on getting Peter Welch elected."

Terrible, isn't it?

Lastly, the post you're griping about was rather mild, and for someone who certainly lives up to the latter part of their user name; frequently blasting broadsides at anyone who disagrees with them, you're wading into the seas of hypocricy.

Lastly, this is a political discussion board, and I am, as are you, free to comment when and where I wish, as long as I don't violate the board rules. You'll just have to suffer through my comment. Such is the nature of free speech.

Oh, and sorry, when I see such a blatant example of a logical fallacy, I damn well will point it out.

22. Ladies and Gentlemen, I rest my case.
I guess some people have to cut others down to feel better about themselves. How nice it would have been if you would have PM'd me instead of showing off. But that's your M.O. and no secret to many who frequent here.

Have a nice evening, and yes, I'd appreciate it if you would focus your sniping elsewhere. :-)

24. I try not to speak for other people
I'd suggest you do the same. Insinuating that your opinion of me is widely shared on DU is just tacky. And why I should have PM'd you and what that has to do with showing off, is a mystery. You attacked me, and yet you expect me to PM you? Do you even see the irony of that?

I wish you a good night, as well, but I'll post when and where I wish.

28. You need to cease following me around and launching these curt attacks.
You have for a fact, without provocation, attacked my comments with these snotty two to three liners over a dozen times.

I leave your posts ALONE because I know our personalities do not mesh.

You are aware of the above fact also. I'm sorry to say openly what I have observed - yes, to note that you IMO snipe often is figuratively "hitting below the belt."

Now for the love of all that is good of our Message Board, at least consider doing what I have concertedly decided, staying away from each other's posts?

With respect, SnF

Then we have to allow it. He's got as much right to say what he did as I have to say the things I say about shrub. Yeah, I know they want to shut me up but the only way it'll happen is over my dead body and then I'll haunt the bastards.

12. It's all kind of silly, don't you think.
Insulting people and countries is bush's specialty. "Clerics" in our country call for political assassinations (Chavez and others), and our politicians are masters of insult ("dictator","Islamofascists", "evil empire", "axis of evil", etc., etc.). How dare someone throw an insult back?

14. To those folks whose chord was struck... get your head out of your
ass.

The Pope's comments dealt with completely different issues and were directed at 1.6 billion people, some of whom are feeling quite victimized by the likes of the Pope.

Chavez's comments were directed at one individual who is not being vicitimized.

End of story.

Dumbasses.

15. Chavez wasn't on US soil when he spoke
Though it is in New York City, the land occupied by the United Nations headquarters is "international territory"<1>, and its borders are First Avenue west, East 42nd Street south, East 48th Street north and the East River east. FDR Drive passes underneath the Conference Building of the complex.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_headquarters

so all "arguments" about "coming here" and "insult us" are irrelevant.

Of course most freepers are unaware of that fact, believing in their jingoism that the UN is "American".

21. the pig plays with the public's perceptions....
chavez knows his life is in danger thanks to bush and the gopig idiotocracy.... he must make it too expensive for the pig to try anything viz himself or venezuela, and making public bush's viciousness only helps president chavez.....another thing: watching the way the bushpig manages news, especially in light of the recent danish cartoon kerfuffle (i'm sure i saw mohammed featured in 'hustler' magazine 30 years ago, looking like one of ali baba's 40 thieves; but islamic extremism wasn't a profit centre to the pig then, so noone noticed)
http://emperors-clothes.com/articles/jared/jihad.htm

Washington Post investigators report that during the past twenty years the US has spent millions of dollars producing fanatical schoolbooks, which were then distributed in Afghanistan.

"The primers, which were filled with talk of jihad and featured drawings of guns, bullets, soldiers and mines, have served since then as the Afghan school system's core curriculum. Even the Taliban used the American-produced books..." -- Washington Post, 23 March 2002 (1)
<snip

the new pope is a neo fascist of some sort; he's rightwing and 'conservative' in a world where fresh water isn't available to nearly 1/3 of the population, still he's satisfied with the status quo......he has never said anything about the busheviks' war on iraq, or the sneaky bahind-the-scenes trickery regards the global stock market, or even the fake election bush stole, and the resulting catastrophe we know as 911 - the catholic church is storied to have the best intelligence gathering system on earth, the church being older then the english language (reagan cia boss william casey was a 'strict catholic'- when robert d'aubisson, el salvador rightwingnut leader of death squads who was known to have murdered archbishop romero, died horribly of stomach cancer, you could almost sense that casey's was behind it, for once doing humanity a good deed)...pope benny surely knew the consequences of calling islam a murderous religion, and the bastard smells like a conman, helping out the devil bush while playacting oh so naive)
