Poll question: Do you believe corporate media's motivation for giving such...
...wide, all day, coverage to the remarks of Hugo Chavez and the U.N. appearance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to buoy Chimpy's woeful approval ratings?

1. They want Bush to appear to be under attack and
the US threatened and assume people will rally around the flag because the pwesident was called a bad name. Poor baby. Can't stand the fire...PLEASE get out of the kitchen.

4. I voted no, because i think their motivation is much simpler.
It lets the talking heads get all hot and bothered about something that they can salivate over. since they can't tear the corpse of jonbenet apart for the time being, might as well go after chavez and ahmadinejad.

5. Yes, and different networks are repeating the same talking points:
"Will Chavez's remarks help the GOP this November?" and "will Chavez's remarks help the president's approval ratings." - this is being said on every channel.

Why don't they ask: "will Chavez's remarks hurt the GOP this November?" or "Will Chavez's remarks cause Christians to rise up against the president?"

Of course MSM will not frame the questions (which are truly statements of opinion) that way. They are under strict orders from the White House.

7. I think it's just because they're stupid and shallow
Ratings with the least amount of work is what the MSM does these days.

Chavez's statement is an easy story, and one that lights fires. Easier to focus on that than about the conditions that led to the populist uprising that Chavez represents.

9. Good point. They are careful to ignore the background...
...of Chavez. He is the story of a populist uprising fed up with corruption---exactly what we need here.
