We have lost 7 soldiers in the last three days and no coverage here-had to go to a web site. We are at "war" and the Commander in Chief is pretending its not going on. What a principled party

39. I've said this before: Tweety says things just to stir the shit.
He'll say something pro-Republican on Imus at 7:15 in the morning and say something completely against the Republicans at 5:15 on Hardball.

The best thing Tweety's good for is listening to the narrative the corporate media are trying to sell us as the elections draw near. Currently it's "Bush and the Republicans close the gap." They're trying to set up some "Republican Miracle of 2006" story for the midterms. After all, the media's gotta do their job to pull all races within the margin of error for Diebold so they don't have to report on election fraud afterward.

It's proactive laziness for the sake of partisanship.

4. Well, I hope that he is wrong but the one thing I can say
is that I wish the democrats would form a platform and get out there with it. I think because the dems are all coming from slightly different places it looks as if we're unorganized and have no platform. What do dems stand for and where are we going to take this nation. I'd like to see something broadly circulated around this.

26. If Nothing Else It Would Show They Took A Stand
I am so tired of hearing the Repukes cry that the Dems are obstructionists which is their excuse for nothing being accomplished. Too bad we haven't obstructed enough. Tons of bad stuff for Americans is being put into law.

The Dems should walk out and not come back until some real legislation is put before the congress.

31. Yes.
It seems the only avenue for dems to get real attention on issues. Our party is being handled by people who think or live in the past. However well packaged the message, the new broadcast media will ignore it or produce the opposition party to attack or spin it.

16. Do the Dems want to win??
If they do, everything bad in the next two years will be pinned on them. I think our nation depends on their winning, but they may not have the will.

And I think Tweety, Hannity, etc. all spouting one poll that shows Bush up is just the propagandists preparing us for a Diebold Republican victory. "See" - Tweety and Hannity will shout "The polls were right!!!"

And democracy takes another step toward the grave.

any dem on TV to be able to say what we stand for, where we're going and how they propose to get us there. I didn't know that platforms were only for presidential election years. IMHO they need to broadcast their ideas far and wide. I do think that if we had a short version of "the plan" tweety would be talking about it. I think we need more and quickly.

40. What I'm trying to say is
When a democratic representative is on a national news program they don't give a clear and concise report of what, when and how to get this country back on it's feet. Most Americans would give anything to hear something intelligent stated clearly and concisely by our democrats. We should cash in on the idiocy of the current administration and start now.

This may be a state and local election year but having a plan will IMHO help our cause from now until November 2008.

The list of setbacks are many, he's getting smacked down left and right and for some reason it's not catching on. on spying, on tribunals, on torture- he's having no real successes, and with iraq getting worse...i don't know where they come up with some of these poll numbers.

Include the senate knocking down the saddam/al qaeda link and he should be polling at 12%.

15. Forgive my ignorance. I'm still new, and idealistic (naive).
I try not to use nicknames or slurs in describing anyone with whom I disagree. As a peace activist, I'm convinced that such language makes peace more illusive and bolsters agressive action (on both sides). Such agressiveness and escalation will end in violence against the innocent. As a result, I often don't know who people are talking about. Who is Tweety, and why is he/she called that?

I like to agree with Gandhi. The phrase means to show courage, to be willing to stand up and take the blows of those who have lost their faith in winning the debate through reason, so they resort to violence. It does not mean submit.

35. Not perfect, and I hope...
I am not ambitious. I just think that it is so easy to allow the ugliness or our disagreements to boil-over, that I hope we can elevate the conversation. Otherwise, we are easily hi-jacked (in my humble opinion).

As a buddhist (and I am not a very good buddhist), I was taught that anger, rage, are self-destructive emotions that sew bad karma. If it will make it easier for you, I will admit openly that I am a hypocritical idealist (I often feel like I have a map of Mt. Everest, I understand which way to go, but don't have the strength, will, or discipline to climb).

Having re-read what I wrote, I do see that it does sound like I was trying to be "superior". It is a fault, I will work on. I'm sorry.

Peace, Love, and Respect to my brothers and sisters.

Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 08:06 AM by Bridget Burke
Who's going to beat someone up because we call Tweety by his nickname? (His hair is often yellow from bleaching--hence the name.)

Someone wrote "Ask a Mexican" (in many free weeklys) this week--questioning why many Mexican-American trucks have "Tweety Bird" decals. The critter is not really macho. The columnist answered that Tweety represents the "Trickster" character--who escapes Authority with humor & wit. (Folklore 101.)

So--"Tweety" isn't necessarily a slur. However, I doubt Matthews has a Tweety decal on his Mercedes. (Or Calvin pissing on La Migra.)

talkin' about..

"NYT editorial: Cornerstone of GOP election strategy is voter suppression"

"One of the cornerstones of the Republican Party’s strategy for winning elections these days is voter suppression, intentionally putting up barriers between eligible voters and the ballot box. The House of Representatives took a shameful step in this direction yesterday, voting largely along party lines for onerous new voter ID requirements. Laws of this kind are unconstitutional, as an array of courts have already held, and profoundly undemocratic. The Senate should not go along with this cynical, un-American electoral strategy."

I think most of us knew there would be a big PR push close to the elections in favor of Bush and Republicans. We all knew the 9/11 anniversary was coming up and that gas prices always drop after the summer vacation season. Some of Bush's unfavorable ratings came from the high price of gas.
The Democrats and to some extent the Republicans have been used by the media.
This means we all have to work harder, volunteer, write letters, talk with people and remind them of why it is so important that we need a change in leadership and to vote for Democrats.

43. sorry, I have a feeling he's right
I hope I'm wrong. I'm not psychic, but my intuition ussually pans out, and have a strong feeling we will not prevail. SORRY.

Those shits have a way of pulling out victories with MSM support. I'm still hearing MSM trumpeting the mantra "Dems have no plan".

47. He's been saying this for a week
He's been flogging the single poll that put him at 44% last week like it's some kind of miraculous comeback.

Setting the table for another huge round of election fraud, no doubt.

It's utterly unimaginable that, knowing what they know, the American people would vote to give Bush two more years of unchecked power, especially with the war trumpeting about Iran. If the Republicans keep both houses, we're finished as a country - fixed elections, more wars, a draft that might finally wake the friggin' country up, fraud and corruption unknown in our history, lies and a Pravda-like media giggling over Chimp's every ridiculous quip and insult. If we think the last six years have been horrible, I get the feeling we ain't seen nuttin' yet.

50. wow.
I'm in disbelief how many of you are buying into and echoing the mantra "Dems have no plan" that Tweety & Co continually chant on the MSM...

Anyway.I just finished reading Matthews book?He calls himself a Maverick Democrat.Seems he was a Repuke enthusiast up until the point he went into the Peace Corp. to avoid having to go to Vietnam.
Apparently his concious got ahold of him over there. So in his gut his sensibilities are Repuke but intellectually he can be nothing but a Democrat.

He says what you see is his own position on matters, that he doesn't speak for "Tip O'Neil & crew" anymore than he speaks for his Republican parents...

Also of note:he won 2 awards for predicting elections. So,yeah this doesn't sound good that "they've turned a corner" coming from him.

I'll believe it when I see it.

53. Tweety = Tokyo Rose = Axis Sally
Tweety is nothing more than a paid shill for the powers that be.

I consider him a traitor.

I support the death penalty for traitors.

58. Like they've "turned the corner" in Iraq?
How long have we been hearing that line from Bush and Rummy?

Well if Bush's corner turning is as good as Rummy's is in Iraq, it sounds like Dems are in good shape.
